Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I practically grew up at Cisco, job right after college for 15+ years!

There is life after Cisco. I practically grew up at Cisco, job right after college for 15+ years. I don't know anything outside of Cisco. So I was vert scared when I got the ping slip last Aug/Sep... but i managed to get an offer within a 2 weeks (you can say luck, i don't care), after 6 months i got offered a better job when i was not even looking, so i took it. Cisco called me for a consultant position at 7th month, but -of course- i said no thank you (well more like a f-off)... I had a chance to to experience 2 different companies, cultures, people... and the people are so friendly and supportive of each other. I am glad with the package i got, and stay away from a cut-throat environment... Don't let these LRs get to you, just prepared, get the package and take off... something will pop up for you!

I've here 4 years coming from another large firm- an MSO. The pay is a little better, the benifits are equal but managers and " leadership" are horrendous to the point that you keep asking yourself "is this real?" HR is like a polyp. I can LR people and only backfill with grade 10 or below. Ageism is fact here at cisco but it is in most tech places in the valley. It's tha nature of the beast.

I'm on my way out of this place. I start my new gig in July. I'm do know this, the grass is not always greener but in my experience there is greener pasture if you look.

This place is vapid.

Good career depending on which years you worked. Obviously past few years of layoffs = unstable career. 25,000+ people laid off since 2011.

Good career?

Must be a case of Stockholm syndrome or the individual lacks any marketable skills.

Good career? You probably need to visit a doctor. Immediately. Maybe even a specialist.

The company is in complete shambles with massive layoffs and absolutely no transparency. Only a career politician/yes man would say "Good pay, good career, if you don't like it, you move on"
