To Michael Dell,

“The single biggest decision you make in your job—bigger than all the rest—is who you name manager. When you name the wrong person manager, nothing fixes that bad decision. Not compensation, not benefits—nothing.”

"The days of the big hardware company are over. IBM, HP and others are all transforming away this business model. Joe Tucci is a salesman and knew he had a big fish on the line."

Amen to that! What Mr Dell should have done was buy Nutanix for the $4 billion or so asking price and had a state of the art technology to call his own instead of legacy EMC antiquated storage junk. If he really wanted what EMC had that bad he could then have waited for the inevitable collapse of EMC itself and then picked up whatever remained at fire sale prices and had the best of all possible scenarios at a fraction of the debt he now has to service. Yup, Joe T knew he had a s---er on the line and sold him the biggest bill of goods the tech world has seen, and no, VX rail isn't going to save the day as the UNity, Vmax, etc. products continue to lose traction in the market place.

As the saying goes, the bigger they are, the harder they fall, and this one is going to make a heck of a dent when it finally hits the ground!

50 percent of Dell legacy business comes from the PC Division .... a dying business. EMC traditional spinning disk business is quickly being replaced by software defined storage.....Michael Dell is a business man not a technologist. The days of the big hardware company are over. IBM, HP and others are all transforming away this business model. Joe Tucci is a salesman and knew he had a big fish on the line.

The main reason I left Dell two years ago was being fed up with the same managers rotating around to hide responsibility, and the lousy management skills of these Dell "Lifers" who can skate by because they are part of the "Good Ol' Boy" network that has existed at Dell for many years. I'm now happy at a start up where the managers are required to do real work instead of spending all their time making the presentations developed by their employees and claiming them as their own. Dell is doomed to fail because they refuse to recognize that the non-value add of these "Lifers" is dragging down the entire company. (But Mikey will still be a billionaire so why should he care)?
