Most ironic part of working at Intel: Having a constantly freezing, bloatware-filled, several-year-old POS laptop.
Nobody wants a plastic boat anchor.
Apple is making a bundle on upgrades, Chasing gamers on the high end ain't going to make the corporate or mom and pop volume grow.
Just look at the cr@p laptops at intel that do perfectly and why does anyone need to upgrade at all.
Falling to diversify into mobile was failure, and sorry IoT not driverless cars or other wet dreams ain't going to fix it.
Phones technically last a long time.
But people upgrade them all the time since the styles go out of fashion.
They're fashion icons and status symbols.
The same psychological reason why women buy $600 purses.

I've never had a phone last for 5 years though. And thanks to over zealous Q&R engineers who overestimate gate oxidation rates your computer will run probably just fine for another 5 years.
My shirt works fine but I still buy new ones.
Phones are a fashion accessory.
PCs are dull appliances.
My phone works great
Apple is 5x bigger than Intel.
Money flows to value.
Cheap Qualcomm PCs are coming also.
Ouch -- here's another one. We had a power outage today and my wife's phone was low on battery so she used the USB side of her iPhone cord to charge her iPhone off the PC battery! Power flows to where utility exists.
