Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Really, core techs can bump into prem tech title...with pay protection...obviously Prem Techs will be let go before core techs. I think you need to get your story right.

Core will stay for longer than you think to fix the PTs work they screw up just out of high school....you get what you pay for with no work experience! You have to let the T fail to get them to change.... they won't listen to logical thinking. In the long run it's the customer that's going to suffer.....sad

Yeah how long do you think att is gonna keep some high paid core tech around to install POTS that att doesn't even actively sell. Only a matter of time....

@2sst: The only time a Prem Tech will work POTS is when they've been dispatched to the location on U-verse ticket and only from the serving terminal. They won't be working POTS only services.

Details of scope of work for the district 9 prem techs under the new agreement has been posted and it's all true, from pots to bridge tap removal to fiber drops T is moving large amounts of work to the lower paid prem techs so the writing is on the wall for mst's and others. Don't forget to vote although I don't think it will matter as the older techs are stubborn and still under the dillusion that they have another 40 years left with the company. Prem techs you guys are getting so screwed.

In the end the T will pay with the loss of vast experience of the Core side! In the long run the customer is the one that's going to suffer the most. One big Cluster f..k

I questioned my CWA union VP about the prem tech title when it was first created. Specifically about the low wages. He said not to worry. That CWA would get them up to scale wages the "next contract". I was incredulous. I knew that would never happen.

Creating the prem tech position was the most genius thing AT&T did. They basically reset all the wage clock. Pretty soon the PT for better or worse will be doing most of the outside work.

T will get cheaper labor (pt techs) to do everything and it will happen because they entice the other departments to Vote yes by giving them good raises essentially pitting everyone against the PT techs and once ratified they'll get rid of the old farts. T can afford a few months of higher pay to the core side for a net result of getting rid of them sooner than latter.

Only 2 years? More like 6 months after ratification. CORE techs jobs are on the line regardless of whether or not this contact passes.

Technology is moving forward to IP-based and wireless-based services. If AT&T spent more time investing in pushing these services out rather than buying a dying technology (directv) and releasing a failed service (directv now), paying Taylor Swift and Marky Mark, and buying Time Warner, these services would be available to more consumers.

Check out the legislation that just passed in Illinois. It allows AT&T to abandon legacy services like POTS. More customers are going wireless only and that means less work for CORE techs.

CORE techs are paid much more than Prem Techs it makes sense that they'd want to shift the workload to them.

Job security doesn't exist anymore in this Company or elsewhere.
