Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Why does Cisco hire/relocate people into fake jobs?

Seems rather evil and unethical

We hire now to justify the existence of the reporting manager, director,VP and fire them 3 years later. Yes, we are Sh*tco!

Many jobs are not "fake", but posted to justify the jobs of management. Managers often create phony job descriptions.

@nsm I think the OP is referring to 1000s of job openings that we have right now - just look them up on monster.com or indeed.com - there are literally 1000s of open jobs, yet, folks (many of them) are claiming that the postings are fake

Not sure I understand "fake jobs". Seem binary to me--you either have job with Cisco or you do not.

However, being someone who survived May's layoff while others around me did not, I do understand that Cisco management sometimes creates what I would term "parking lot" positions for those still employed. Your position is not secure and can be ended at the whim of VP. Seems to happen when they are not sure of direction moving forward.

Also, let's face it, smart VP's are setting up for the next 10% layoff by shuttling targeted people into expendable positions. The situation I strongly suspect I find myself in.
