Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Just something to think about.

Here is something to think about. First and foremost I am not here to spread any layoff rumors. Right now with no overtime laws for store management it would seem rediculous to layoff the one type of employee that can work indefinitely for the same wage. But here is something to mull over. This past year the company instilled the no rollover vacation policy. Makes sense. Ensure those who have vacation, take it. A rested employee is a happy employee. But here it is. That vacation, which is a use or loose, is on the current ending fiscal year books. Since there is no roll over the accountants don't need to account for accrued vacation for budgets for layoffs. Not suggesting anything but going forward, smart on follett for this one.

2 weeks for each year is industry standard. Some give you 3 or even 4. Follett is continually well below industry standard pay as well as apparently now benefits

If you've been with the company for 15+ years, don't count on a severance. You will be abused and harassed until you resign or give cause for termination. Either way, no severance. At one week for every two years, a 20 year employee would get 10 weeks of pay. Honestly, that's cheap, but it seems to be in line with other companies. 10 weeks goes fast and the company would rather pay lawyers to threaten you if you sue.

You are 100% on the money. Leadership has complained about the severance payments to employees which includes the seniority payout + the accrued vacation. Some employees received 40+ weeks in payout. This is just another example of the company minimizing the impact of layoffs, and knowing that there will be more layoffs for the foreseeable future, until sales declines stop. All future layoffs will be substantially less expensive to the company. Also keep in mind that any severance paid to employees is optional and can be reduces or eliminate.

Bad on follett for failing to staff adequately for employees to take vacation. If they want to remove that liability from the books, they should eliminate vacation time keeping all together. Many companies, in Silicon Valley, have already done this.

If you want to take a week off to travel, do it. Make sure your work is done. Not being here isn't an excuse for not getting it done. No liability. A good number of employees can never take a trip. Problem solved.

It's not good for the employee. THen again, working for follett isn't good for an employee either.

There's a dark cloud rising from the desert floor

I packed my bags and I'm heading straight into the storm

Gonna be a twister to blow everything down

That ain't got the faith to stand its ground

Blow away the dreams that tear you apart

Blow away the dreams that break your heart

Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted
