Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Kmart pantry -- house brands

Many stores are beginning to receive replacement product for house branded items in food pantry, chemical pantry and pet supplies that are being paid for cash up front, being sourced from other suppliers, or with 30 day terms.

These items will not have Smart Sense/Image Essentials/Essential Home/Cat & Co./Champion Breed branding on them but the manufacturer's own labels.

This way, the manufacturers won't be stuck with truckloads of Kmart branded product should the company cut orders or be unable to meet agreed upon payment terms. In some cases, the company's per unit cost is lower, based on what I have seen through the RMU... giving these items a higher margin.

One example: Shearer Foods, which supplies Smart Sense brand salty snacks, crackers and cookies, started shipping their own brand product into distribution centers already.

Expect to see the same type of branding changes in other departments.

They actually sat us all down in the break room a few months ago to watch some propaganda video from corporate about all the fancy new things they were doing, part of which was the fresh food and such. I think this was just a little bit before all the Simple Store Process nonsense and the massive layoffs that got rid of most of the people we would have needed to pull any of it off.

That one location probably makes enough profit to justify it being left open. When sales begin to slip for that store though, it'll be gone also.

So why hasn't SHC called it quits on the super Kmart format yet? Why bother with only one location left

WOW, we are down to one single Kmart supercenter! That is crazy. I remember when the format was pushed as the future of Kmart lol

There is one Kmart Supercenter remaining. Grocery there and at KFRESH stores are supplied separately.

They have been doing some of that quietly for several years now. They started with many of the Smart Sense products in HBA, like mouthwash coming in with different generic brand names on them. The fact they would have to pay upfront and can't even afford to have a store brand product is very telling as to the sad state of the company.

Ive already noticed this on random products like some of the smart sense toothpaste space that is now some random off brand.

"This actually sounds like it fits within SHLD's cost reductions plan. Gives stores product filling shelves and it's invariably sold with higher margins? Sounds good to me."

LOL!! You serious?

Sears is screwing their suppliers to breathe another day. You think this is a long term solution?? Unpaid suppliers don't go away, they file lawsuits.

What a total M O R O N to think that Sears can just walk away from massive debts and buy from someone else!!

Sears employees...no wonder the company is going down. Talk about tards..

K mart customers are generally on the lower side when it comes to household income. They probably couldn't care less about the actual brand as long as the price is less. Especially since it's already technically off brand merchandise. Pretty reasonable tactic. At least they're still trying.
