Thread regarding Toys "R" Us layoffs

More layoffs coming, over 1000 department supervisors and full timers will receive their walking papers soon, sad. While the CEO gets $18mill.

Has anyone received their severance pay? I'm still waiting and of course I cannot get ahold of anyone that can give me the contact to the right people so I can get down to the bottom of this. The paperwork I was given at the time of notice of my layoff doesn't have any contact info.

It's awful. An oversized group of over paid DMs, Regional Directors, Vp's, LP managers, Hr Managers all redundantly email their stores on meaningless compliance daily. And their visits are all same--- total waste of repetitive supervision. So much fat in the field supervisor teams yet they strip the stores to the bone and never reduce task.

I got to work yesterday morning and asked to come into the office. The manager read from a script about changes and stuff and I knew what that meant right away. No warning no nothing. I know for a fact that our store goes over the budgeted sales almost every week. He made me sign some agreement, which he wasn't even going to give me a copy but I made him, and then ushered me out the door. I was the Funiture DS and I know the clothing DS was also let go from our store. Yea great we get a little money and they don't fight unemployment but that means nothing when one is shoved out the door. We are human beings. If we were going to leave and go to another company we would give them a two week notice. WHAT ABOUT US?

And as usual there is no managing down of expectations after gutting payroll. Still the same amount of asinine IPP projects with no hours to work them. Still the same workload with even less payroll to accomplishment. Same "just get it done" answer from management.

If you want to save money continue firing all of the district managers, who continue to make over 100k a year pointing out the obvious during store walks. While doing absolutely nothing to support the stores. You're not allowed to use the word payroll, even though hours are the answer to all of the problems.

Yes, toy specialist seems to be all stores. But there's differing accounts on which DS and specialist roles are being eliminated. I believe it has something to do with the stores volume code.

I would agree that these decisions aren't personal on a store management level. They're reading from a script. As usual these cuts are arbitrarily taking out some of the more talented individuals. Which echoes the sentiments of people with knowledge of the GRC cuts.

To me that indicates there is no long term strategy to keep the business viable. Cutting your biggest sources of institutional knowledge is a sign that there is no future.

Sears shutting down was in the news today. Speciality retail is dead.

I was told yesterday that my toy specialist position was being eliminated nation wide. This is b---s--- meanwhile they hired a new babies manager and have a ft babies position available after all cuts have been made 🤔 wait what? I was told it was nothing against me which seems like bs. Has anyone else noticed toy specialist spots being eliminated or am i being lied to?

So it looks like Gear and Registry for the most part, with a few exceptions. Really, I think they could pick who they want to let go, then move everyone else around like they usually do. I've held 3 different DS positions in the 6 years I was there.

I was just told My job was gone. I was a DS in Baby Gear and I was called into the office a few minutes ago and told. No warning or anything!

So, it looks like the stores had a choice of which full timers to let go. My store lost the two highest paid supervisors. I have a feeling that was the criteria, looking at these other posts. But hey... I get 3 weeks severance pay... woohoo

My Store just let our Supervisor of 30 years go, and then gave the new combined job (HR/Front End Supervisor) to someone who has only been in the management field for 2 years and has received numerous complaints for her attitude. This following several years ago where the assistant manager that was written up for s-xual harassment twice was moved to his third store and then another assistant manager was fired because of budget cuts while he gets to keep his job. I've worked for the company for almost 10 years and they focus on protecting the wrong assets. I abandoned my job after hearing about my friend and colleague. It's only been part time for me for years now, but I did it to keep in contact with the employees.

The sad part of all of this. Is that it all comes down to money. Last week they cut the regular employee hours per week by 40. They appear to be trimming the higher paid staff from the multiple locations I spoke with. It's sad that they are focusing on the bottom line instead of retaining their best employees. The store already struggles to provide guest service when no one can be on the floor and the Store Manager never leaves his office.

I received notice as well that my position is being cut and I am the baby Gear DS. No warning or anything. Throwing my self and my 3 month old out into the cold with no health insurance. This is why we NEED unions people.

My store cut the position of supervisor with keys. I assume it's a national cut. I just hope he finds a new and better job.

They're losing one registry full time position, apparently, and the other one is back of house. More than likely the receiving specialist.

Informed today my position was being phased out. Have until Wednesday to decide whether I want to take a severance package, or to go part time. Official last day is Friday. They're doing all of the meetings with dept. sups today. I had a feeling it was coming.
