Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

I'm still pinching myself

For so many years I did everything possible not to get laid off; worked 70 hour weeks, took on anything and everything I was asked to, was careful to maintain good relationships with everyone, especially my managers. I was always ranked Signifcantly Exceeds. And then I just gave in and gave up. I just didn't want to wake up everyday, trying so hard to do everything possible not to get laid off. I said yes to being laid off and it was the best decision I ever made. I immediately found another job that pays 35% more, normal workload, just a completely normal place to work, with such nice people. I'm still pinching myself at my good fortune to have escaped the current madness and truly wondering why I tried so hard to hang on and why I cared so much. I'm much better off than I ever was at HPE and regret all those years that I wanted so badly to stay.

If you live in an area with a reasonable employer base, you would likely find new employment. I started looking before the axe fell and found a new position last fall, and am still getting pinged by recruiters for other positions. The best part...same pay as HPE, better benefits, better bonus, working 40 hours a week with a reasonable workload in a company that has a clear vision and is making money (priceless)! It is hard to start over but it is worth it. It was very scary for me after being at HP/E so long (30 years), but there are a lot of good jobs out there right now. It doesn't hurt to look around if you've had enough, and you don't have to quit your day job. Best of luck.

I’m still pinching myself too! I was with HPE/ES out of Pontiac Michigan and after 16 years with HP working on many different accounts I quit last August. I was sick of HPE always hanging that “Axe” over my neck. Working 60+ hours a week to try and get by and working weekends and holidays. Finally I was fed up with the way this company was trying to push everything to Low-Cost (Off-Shore) centers. Watching them Fly in workers from these “Low-Cost” centers to train them how to do our jobs. Then handing them our jobs while hopefully finding another job on another account which happened to me every 3-4 years. I was always ranked Significantly Exceeds (P1) etc… but no matter what I had to “re-invent” myself every 3-4 years with HPE

I quit and got another job one week later! Received a 50% raise plus got a 7% bonus last Christmas even though I was only here for a few months! Great benefits and great people! My stress levels are way down plus I sleep through the night not worrying. All USA team which means the work actually gets completed 100% of the time and on target with very little if any issues which I never got to experience at HPE. I always wondered why HPE could not hang on to a contract past 5 years… Now I know why!

The Grass is Greener on the other side! Don’t be afraid… Look around and make that jump to a company that will appreciate your work and efforts. They are out there for sure!
