Thread regarding Follett layoffs

My NIGHTMARE

I have never ever worked for a company with such disregard for the associates who are the backbone of their organization. I put forth 2 years of my life to this company. I had a very serious medical event, that caused me to go on FMLA. While in the hospital I received several texts from my District Director, asking me when I was coming back, and when this would be resolved. I was 100% fighting for my life at the time. When my FMLA was nearing it's end, I was hassled over the Return To Work Documents, my restrictions from my Doctors was challenged and pushed, and never were fully executed by the company. A week after my return, I received a write-up for things that had happened 4 months prior to me becoming ill, things which my District Director had already addressed with me on previous visits and didn't seem to have a real issue with at the time. In the 2 years with the company I had never received a performance evaluation nor did I receive a raise. Eventually I learned that the company's contract was being renegotiated, that we had a new Regional Manager, and that a former employee of mine had lied to the District Director about things in the store, because she was hoping if I was fired she could get my job. Eventually the retaliation had wore on me, and one last issue was the final straw. I quit. In my time there, I had seen them announce downsizing measures, which I had to immediately implement, meaning I have had to pull associates in and say "Well we have decided to end our working relationship with you today, Thanks for coming in though, don't come back"

I truly wish I had never applied let alone accepted my position. My opinion, all they want to do is please the campus anyway they can, regardless if it's value added, so that they can continue their contracts while finding ways to downsize and cut the store without the campus really knowing what is going on. The company is a dinosaur in todays world of ever changing media format delivery, and Amazon growth. They are stepping on their people to try and hang on.

I'm sorry for you, too. This is a horrible company. It didn't use to be that way. During the past 5+ years, however it has declined faster than its earnings.

Folks, this is a terrible place to work. If you haven't been singled out yet, you're not exceptional, you're next.

The longer you wait, the harder it is going to be. If you think finding a job at 45 is hard, wait until you're 50 (or 55). You're more valuable to a real, good company today than you will be in two years. Pull your resume, your skills, your accomplishments together and get out of this place. Today!

When I took my job at Follett, I read the glowing reviews on Glassdoor.com and it seemed like a good place to work. Yes the industry was going down, but as the regional who interviewed me said, kids will always buy from the student bookstore. Unfortunately I now know there is no future for a company that treats its employees so poorly. The store employees touch all of our customers....it is no wonder that sales continue to decline. All while the ivory tower adds more vp's.

Sorry that happened and I hope you are doing ok but I agree with the former poster. Follett is a horrible company. How did you not do research on them especially with how they have been in the past 4-5 years before taking the job. They are a garbage can of a company.

Follett right now is the kind of place you go to each day, collect a paycheck and do as little as possible.

Sorry that happened but yes all companies do that. A friend got cancer and then came back to a pink slip. They do not care although some good people still do...

Ps - did you think Follett was a good company or something?
