New Owners

Why is employee morale so low now that there are new owners? What's wrong now?

There is a strong sentiment that the culture in UOPX is one of lies and deceit so longer term employees are seen as complicite in these dealings, thus good employers don't want to go near these resumes. I believe that is why these struggling, low morale employees are still working there- they feel defeated. Most are so ingrained in the culture with their UOPX degrees and complacency that it's difficult to reposition themselves. sad.

I left UoP a year ago.

Horrible place to work.

You know it's bad when shooting yourself in the head sounds better than going to work.

Why do good people with market prospects stay at UOP? Of course there are many reasons but I seriously doubt it is because they feel valued, rewarded, appreciated, and recognized. Some could be hopeful that new owners could mean better things ahead? My guess is comfort and the realization by some that their inflated salaries will be hard to match in the current ed market. This statement reflects only enrollment, marketing, and anyone at the dean or CD level; it generally does not apply to Academic Affairs, Ops, or IT. Good people who have options are using their current employment at UOP to find other jobs and I am guessing many can't wait to get out. I agree that upper level management does not care much about individual employee departure. They don't seem to have the capability to recognize or retain enough talented people. And there is the prevailing belief that there is always an aspiring COS to replace an educated, experienced, and competent AA staff member. I have not heard any promises I consider to be false. I do strongly believe there will be a lot more "rightsizing" in all departments. What they can centralize and outsource they will. How could morale be anything but in the tank given leadership performance over the past five years? To have any kind of elevated morale, one would have to be oblivious, have zero expectations and aspirations, few prospects, and a level of esteem that is thankful for their job despite how they are treated and the lack of recognition, appreciation, and benefits offered. Why would we expect a different outcome? Our leadership is bereft of compassion, awareness, acuity, agility, and courage. The culture remains toxic. Of course there are still good, competent people, but their ranks are diminishing everyday. Most of our employees at all levels are products of the UOP system, holding UOP MBA's, doctorates, or BA's. Thus, they will reinforce the culture, not seek to change it with meaningful reforms. Just look at our online platform. In a word it is a joke. It still relies on basic text messaging in an asynchronous environment. This is ancient technology. I have been at universities that were using synchronous, real-time technology 15 years ago. This is what happens when millions go to exec salaries and bonuses, naming stadiums, and tons of advertising. I am shocked it has taken this long for the market to realize just how mismanaged Phoenix has been over the past 10-15 years or so. It will make a great ethics case study one day soon.

Maybe you don't work here! You can't ask for a work from shift, you have to be selected for it. It just go to show how far you are disconnected from what is really going on. They only off9er the crappy shifts to work from home.

Lies, lies and more lies "Practically every department now allows staff to work from home 1-2 days a week" as posted by STaS. Don't believe a word.

Haha, where does #4 work? Practically every department now allows staff to work from home 1-2 days a week. They even ship you monitors so you can have two just like your desk top. This site is mostly garbage and full of crap rumors. If you aren't getting these benefits then you haven't asked or you don't really work here.

The real deal is and why employees are at a low morale is that between staff and management are at odds management willing to let Tanner employees go with no regard to their future families and are willing to write DM's as a form of more motivation management has not and probably will never know how to truly support and create a culture of empowerment and positivity if you look at the staff for enrollment academics and finance most of them are tendered but management treat them like children they talk about being forthright and honest but you can tell by their words and actions that they don't even know what's going on and have no real method or idea on how to make this place better most of the management were promoted back in the day because of their high numbers but the fact is they truly don't know how to build a vision that this company claims it needs to be most of us make a decent salary and I'm not saying we need more races because we know the company need money to survive but what about work and life balance ? What about better health benefits? What about schedules that allow staff either work from home ? Or split days? There's more to life than money when it comes to motivating and securing staff that this is the best place to work and thrive.

I agree with the other folk. We've been lied to, been through countless layoffs, and JUST when we think things are about to get better, it gets worse. The corporate execs are getting their pockets lined with BIG money, while we have no chance for a raise. I dont speak for everyone, but if most folks are like me, theyre here for the 5 weeks vacation and a decent salary.

Thanks for explaining, that makes a lot of sense. The job market seems pretty good now especially for office jobs $50k-80k, guess it depends on where, east coast is good. Good luck to all.

Well, management said my current department is a key component in the business model. But since that announcement two months ago, my department has lost job responiblities to other departments due to the number of employees that have left the company. My department will not hire new employees to replace the ones that have left. So, management's word state we need you. Management's action show we will be axed. Morale is low because we know we are being lied.

Well I think employees are tired. We have been through the ringer will false promises. The economy is picking up and people are starting to realize there are finally better opportunities outside the University. If you don't have your resume in circulation you're the odd duck out. The sad thing is management doesn't care if you leave, due to the fact we are still shrinking. Many employees have showed dedication through these hard times. For people that are leaving you will finally have growth opportunities, good for you!
