Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Relationship

I recently over heard 2 employees referring to working here like being in a abusive relationship. You know you should get out but its all you know if you leave it will change everything, but it beats you down and you swear you are going to leave but then it buys you something nice and you believe that maybe just maybe they will change and things will get better so you stay.

How about a mouse in a psych lab? Mouse pushes lever to get food pellet (or a dollar), but also gets a nasty shock (or has to work at COP). Shocks continue to get worse, but mouse just keeps going after it. Classic conditioning theory: but I need more money!!!!

Very nice analogy. I think it could also be compare to a drug user. They really think they can quit, and they really want to quit. But then the drugs (dollars) are dangled in their face.

Lol. "I wish I knew how to quit you."

Either that or, "hope is a good thing. And no good thing ever does."

Brokeback or Shawshank, either way those aren't great options for someone to be living. Fun for others to watch, but not so much to be living it.
