Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Survivors May Be In For A Prolong Period Of Stagnation

May be looking at decades with no advancement opportunitiesfor those in their 20's, 30's & 40's. We have experienced layoffs, asset sales, exits from future growth outlets (international exploration & deep water GOM). The company is shrinking. Look at the organization chart. That too will shrink. Also, the relatively young age of the current supervisors and their supervisors is close to the age of the worker bees. The older employees have already been dismissed in the prior layoffs. There is very little opportunity for those in their 20's, 30's & 40's to advance. In the Lower 48, we will be down to essentially 3 areas: Bakken, Eagle Ford & Permian Delaware. All have limited remaining commercial development potential in a $40-$60 oil environment since the quality wells have already been drilled. Survivors of the upcoming layoffs may just exist for the next quarter century. Should have plenty of time for meetings, presentations. May work on developing additional processes and flow charts. Looks like history repeats

This could be interesting to watch supervisors, managers and lower level executives maneuvering to secure a position in what is left of the company. Am sure they will step up the whipping of the underlings in effort to showcase their value. It is getting close to home for those who thought they were bullet-proof.

It would not only be structural it would also be stratigraphic because it would not only change the organizational structure, it would also change the way we think and operate from henchforth.

Along with VP positions eliminated or combined, there will be reductions in BU Manager positions due to consolidation of remaining asset base. The meltdown is starting and will be structural and severe.

Thanks for the link: "Unmistakeable signs of a bad place to work." I'm not surprised that CoP does many of these.

What is wrong with prolong period of stagnation? This is great. In our office we a group that play video games most of the day. Can come in late and leave early. Get plenty of money to travel and buy want I want when I want. I can easily live like this for the next 30 years. Most of us would rather not work and this is the closest thing. Don't rock the boat.
