Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

A little honesty would be nice.

We all know about some sort of layoffs but some honesty and transparency would be nice. I've been with this company a long time and getting let go wouldn't be the worst thing that's ever happened to me however the stress of "maybe I have a job tomorrow or maybe I don't" can make it very uncomfortable.

I worked in IT and Verizon on my resume is great. Very few people can say they supported or engineered an environment like this (let the jokes begin). Retail or call center.....Yeah not so much

I'm recruited often due to my position within Verizon. No one turn you down because they "hate Verizon". You would never receive that as interview feedback. You sound rediculous.

That's why I'm sending half my resumes out claiming Yahoo, the other half with AOL.

I had many prospective employers at the end of the interview process tell me they hated Verizon. I also never heard back from them later.

Yeah get used to it, they are not going to tell you that you're a possibility

@bel: You're full of it. Verizon on a resume looks quite good depending on what part of the business you're in. Maybe your experience is that Verizon isn't good on a resume because it's retail, but if you're having a problem finding work it's 99.9% likely that the problem is you, not Verizon.

Verizon on a resume doesn't look good. It's retail. A friend is a HR director and they steer clear of vzw employees. There's no moving up in vzw really.

@spm- There is a flip side to your business statement. Leadership makes poor decisions and those poor decisions lead to layoffs.

Maybe they should have thought about the RSS position more before creating it. Its less than a year old and the rumor is they are getting rid of it? How irresponsible is that?

I completely agree. Being that we all work for Verizon.. we all know how the layoffs work. Blind siding. At the end of the day it's a business and yes their focus is profitablity. All companies are that way. The waiting , the rumors are all heart wrenching. I am grateful to work for this company . I have very good experience now and having Verizon on your resume always looks good. I am an RSS. I am scared to loose my job this week, but I don't have anything bad to say about this company. Most companies operate this way. There have been plenty of good things to come out of this company for me. Good luck all... just because they let you go doesn't mean your life is over. Severance and unemployment to get you buy is great. Most people don't get that .

Not going to happen. Verizon is one of the most dishonest companies I know.
