If your worried about your sears 401k open your own IRA for free through a place like scott trade and do a direct transfer contact your admin
Any time you want as long as your prepared to pay any taxes that might be due if you didn't follow the rules properly - best to check with a qualified financial planner
401K is separately managed. You just need to follow the guidelines.
