Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How were people selected for the RIF? Sounds like groups had 30-75% cuts. Anyone know how they determine who got cut? Seniority? Performance?

By project? I have only a year in and think the next round I can get hit. In CA.

From my former team (in BUR) it appeared that mostly older folks were let go, probably because they can keep paying the younger guys less...

I heard it was strictly based on performance. Low performing were let go. Brilliant people survived.

Untrue. It was strictly based on pay and budget reduction targets.

Getting fired for poor performance is termination for cause, and Oracle doesn't have to pay a dime in severance.

work load was way down in HW systems. If you didn't have an active project or multiple skill sets, it did not matter how long you worked there, what your gender or age, they have to pick someone to make their target %. Some good, hard working people were axed.

Oracle gave me a good ride, and I must say that they were able to give me my desired outcome, which I stated in my annual performance review/plan. If you want out and say so, they may be able to accommodate you. I feel that they were a good place to work.

In some places it partly depended upon the project. Some projects were dropped entirely, some were put in maintenance mode, and riffed. Some people were let go whom I consider top-drawer. The selection in my org was made above the director level, or so I was told. 50% of the org I was formerly in was riffed. My performance was solid forever. My director went too. I got my desired outcome at age 64, to get to focus on some other parts of life. I strongly agree with the poster who said to update your resume and don't be a sitting duck. There's more coming within a year, in my estimation, which is not based on specific knowledge.

Your boss gets to decide depending on what he/ she thinks. Don't fall for this "it was performance based" bs

It was performance based to an extent. Unfortunately a minor % of good people got affected too.

If you weren't hit this round, you need to update your resume and start looking for another job. Don't be a sitting duck.
