Class of March 2016 here... I had a scheduled 1x1 on a Thursday which was moved to the following Monday morning (the invite was changed 2 weeks prior, which means mgr knew for 2 weeks). The week before I was laid off, 2 other people were WFRd and mgr told the team there were no more for now. Monday morning 1x1 time came and after I sat down in the room with mgr, she started with "this is a difficult conversation..." Instantly I knew what was happening! And it dawned on me what a lying POS the whole mgmt team had become. So when she asked if I had questions I simply said no and left the room. Picked up my stuff and left. Transitioned every thing in 2 days and enjoyed the remainder of my time off work. Returned on last day at 4:00 to drop off my PC and badge. Never even spoke to manager or coworkers after the transition work was done.

Exactly two years ago (1/12/15) I got my notification, and was out by 1/30. The following weeks were pretty painful, but I got two offers by the end of March, and relocated my family in April. In less than 10 months I got a promotion within that Company and since the business is growing quickly it wouldn't be surprising if I get another one soon.
I would recommend avoiding the "Big IT Names" and focus on the "small" companies (preferably non-IT industry) that is where the real opportunities to grow are. You might need to relocate and take a salary cut at the beginning, but at least for me things worked out really well. Two year after that terrible Jan 12th I still ask myself how did I allow them to kick me out. I should have left by my own terms plenty of time before that. Good luck, pal.
Unfortunately this is the modus operandi of large corporations today. They want to offshore everything then so be it. In time this will be a very very bad decision. Be thankful you get your severance pay. Others will not after the spinoff. The pastures are actually much greener on the outside.
