Repost from @LWZrJwd-vhf - A 25% cut company-wide is plausible.... although estimated at 30.000 to 40.000 peeps highly unlikely
A 25% cut at Hoffman Estates just ain't gonna happen.
As of Feb 25, 2016 they had 4850 corp. employees plus 800 contractors in
Hoffman Estates. The same Feb 25, 2016 PR stated... In addition, 151 jobs
currently open in Hoffman Estates will not be filled.
A 25% cut equates to 1412 employees + or - a few. Its assumed that since the
above date a sufficient number of employees and contractors have departed
the company and may / may not have been replaced due to SHC highly
publicized and continuous problems.
Sears can't possibly be cutting 25% of jobs at Hoff. Estates. If they did they
would be have to eliminate ALL remaining contractor jobs plus 612+ corporate
positions.
Anything more would place them in violation of a 2011 contract with the State
of Illinois whereby they are required to keep AT LEAST 4200 jobs in Hoffman
Estates to continue to receive the tax breaks of the agreement.
"The deal provided an extension of Sears' local property tax deal worth $125 million, plus $150 million in state income tax breaks over the following decade. The company needs to keep at least 4,200 jobs there, according to the terms. At the time the agreement was struck, Sears employed more than 4,900 people in Hoffman Estates, as well as an additional 1,100 contract workers."
