Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

The latest rumors

I was told by a friend in management around Thanksgiving, that the planning for these layoffs had begun in the fall. Coaches were notified there would be middle management layoffs first (coaches were jockeying for position which is why you may have noticed them being very stressed in December), followed by CHEs and PHCs, then after CGX 2.0 launched HCMs would be whittled down to about 50-60% of that workforce, first through attrition (read squeezed out), next firings and lastly severance. Social workers will also be hit hard. These layoffs are to start mid-March thru April. I was also told management considers 12-13 contacts daily a reasonable goal and HCMs are frankly expected to work as long as it takes including weekends to meet that goal in order to keep their jobs. And as they are now considered salaried (forget the 40 hour week you were promised when hired), no overtime hours. Florida is a right to work state and provides very little protection for employees BTW. Staffing had been deliberately over hired to entice Aetna to make offer with HAH as the golden goose, and now that merger is blocked, Humana is cleaning house and restructuring HAH. Into what, only upper management knows, but expect more robotic calls (IVR etc.) and attempts to figure out how non nurse employees can educate members about medical issues at less cost that nurses' salaries. It's all about cutting losses and increasing profits folks.

Auto dialer coming soon, if I wanted to work in a call center I would have applied for such position. PHC's have built relationships with members some who took months to finally open up and talk about there health and seek guidance and assistance. When I started 3 years ago things changed all the time due to the department I was in at that time BUT employees were valued there WAS work life balance it was quality over quantity. My coach was required to get to know ME, I was a single parent and was told to reach out for flexing or adjusting ur schedule I was so happy to hve a job that cares for there employees along with work life balance. Now all I here is talk time, metrics, Aux codes, keep dialing even if u reach 10 get more more more...having a coach threaten to take away well being saying it's a privilege and not given. if u do take PTO try and get more calls in to make up for it and still meet metrics...no time to join groups, lunchn learn or trainings. I'm just tired and sad:(

This is very distressing, and like the others before me, I too feel such intense stress and even sadness signing in each day. HAH we were told to believe is the special widely admired part of the company!

I keep hoping ok, this last hurdle, maybe then it will get better....but the past 6 months it has not gotten better. We HCMs care and do our best for the mbrs, I hear it when I talk to my coworkers and we discuss cases, I read it when I have to email or IM other depts. so many really good people who want to help the mbrs! And to have it all boil down to metrics and dollars earned for the company. Sad. Very sad

'I'm just confused as to why. All I have ever heard is how well HAH does, how profitable we are.'

In a corporation that is designed to make profit, there is no cap on the profit made. If it can make a buck, then it works to make two, then three, then four and on and on and on...

Thanks, OP, for the information. It all makes sense. I am sorry for those who were and will be 'impacted' by all of this. The days of working for one company until you retire are long gone.

I hate going in. I hate to login every morning. It's sad because it wasn't always like this. The pressure is sickening. It makes you physically ill. Humana has no soul. They are raping us everyday...and taking pleasure in it.

I'm shocked too, HAH was the jewel in the crown. Now I feel sick each morning before I sign on, what will happen, metrics, new systems. I can understand restructuring, why don't we just discuss it, give people a heads up, make plans. This daily peer average race is insane! Maybe we got on the phone and just rambled to increase talk time and reached 12--- versus help the member, maybe have to call them back that same day once or twice, but help was obtained and tragedy avoided, instead of making us all play this game! I'm applying elsewhere, trying to get out now.

Makes perfect sense. The autodialer, increased roster size, increased IVRs leads to reduction on staff. I'm just confused as to why. All I have ever heard is how well HAH does, how profitable we are.
