Thread regarding Sears layoffs

My money is on Thus Feb 23rd for Head Office (Hoffman Estates) Layoffs, here's a simple reason why:

A simple excercise anyone can do. Open your outlook calendar, go to 'make new appointment' then 'select rooms'. Select every room available. You will see what rooms are available and the title for each. Beteeen the hours of 8am and around 1/2PM there are close to 30 'Strategy Sessions' or 'Blocked for BC' across all buildings. This site wide blocking of rooms does not happen (explore yourself) people get let go on mass and in conference rooms. Good luck to all, have your desks ready and packed by Wednesday just in case.

@LWZrJwd-3yje That comment offsets the strange/mean ones that are sometimes posted here. Great words of advice, thanks and good luck!

So many years ago I walked in the front door with dignity and confidence. Happy to be at Sears and confident I could do a good job. If I get "the walk" tomorrow, I'm going out the FRONT door the same way. Dignity intact and confident I did everything possible to help deliver success. If you also get "the walk", hold your head high. The deck was stacked long ago. Best of luck to All.

I took someones advice. I got called into a conference room today. I promptly sh*t my pants and then I realized I was not getting laid off. Talk about embarrassing. Really awkward situation.

Sears to release earnings before stock market opens tomorrow... And so it begins.

I agree with the post below. Although I am only familiar with a small number of people because I am in a Sears store, there are plenty of people on both pebble & in our system in general who have left the company for all kinds of reasons. If you didn't know, you'd think that they were currently working at our location.

@LWZrJwd-2csj; I don't think that is really indicative of anything. I still see the names of people who have long since left the company either through quitting or being laid off/fired from at least a year ago. If there even is any protocol for such people being removed from the system, I don't think it refreshes at anything resembling a real-time rate.

Check how many hours were given for your consultative areas next week. Looks like there's truth to tons of people going straight hourly.

Everyone, please keep this on topic and be respectful of those losing their jobs and thankful for those providing us valuable information. That being said, I have to affirm the earlier post about the nachos last week. Most people understand that melted cheese is NOT for attracting the dogs on bring your pet to work day. Moving forward, let's all insist the dogs are on a leash and the hamsters are sober.

Via Pebble this morning: 130,167 total members and 3,785 with Hoffman listed as their location. It'll be interesting to monitor those numbers throughout the week.

At the last comment. Please don't make things up on here. I'm really getting sick of "fake news" everyone know that NO offered you points for pay. Let's stick to what we know. It's getting really hard to sift through all the bull

If you don't think it matters, be sure to put "On Mass" on your resume instead of the correct one and see where it gets you.

FYI to anyone who wants to know. The "detail" of my final check was posted to 88sears the night before my layoff. I worked at the store level so I don't know if pay is the same at HQ. it was painfully obvious what it was. Showed "vacation payout", showed hours worked through the end of the next day, was an "off cycle" check and showed it was paid in check form when I had direct deposit. I literally was just randomly looking at my pay stubs what I saw a brand new one in the middle of a pay cycle. It was a huge help for me to prepair and have a leg up. I felt like I was in control of the situation. If you are ever unsure if you have been laid off, check your 88sears pay to see if anything has posted. Hope this helps someone.

I have a feeling that if you work on the store retail side of the corporate office, you're at risk more so than online associates. Also, making more money is not necessarily in your favor at this point. I just wish we had an idea of what areas were getting cut. Management on my team has been silent.

Glad to see you have something important to contribute Mr En Masse! People are losing their jobs and you're worried about spelling errors, loser.

Sadly this is how it has to be done in this day and age because people think they have the right to do stupid s**t. Also why most restaurants close with no advance notice. Too big a risk of someone doing something that might harm the company or worse other employees or the public.

This is what will happen tomorrow if you're being laid off:(Remember this decision was made a couple of days ago, there is nothing you can say or do that will change this, you are just going through the motions at this point).

  1. Your boss or your bosses boss will stop by your cube and say something along the lines of "let's go for a walk," or "can you come with me for a minute?"

  2. He/She will lead to a conference room where HR rep will be. Boss will say they are firing you due to business reasons, hopefully they will thank you for your service and wish you the best in the future. The boss will leave and HR will take over.

  3. HR will explain your severance. (Last year everyone got a minimum of 10 weeks pay and any vacation time they earned.) They will explain unemployment and how Cobra works if you still need insurance.

  4. They will tell you where to find some boxes and you are free to go.

Good question I was thinking the same thing. Does anyone know how it worked last year? Shall we be fearing every calendar invite we get? Personally I think they will just stop by your desk and ask you to step into their reserved 'strategy session' room at the very last minute. The goal for them is to contain the situation so any advance notice works against them, the element of surprise keeps things controlled.

So I've never been through something like this. The conference room near my area is blocked off for this "strategy session". Will they put a meeting on our calendars if we're the selected ones to lose our jobs or do we just get called in? Kind of nervous....

Be courteous and respectful to those who are laid off on Thursday. Statistically your time will come in your career. If you don't know what to say then don't say anything, following up with a LinkedIn message or email if you were relatively close would be a nice supportive touch. Don't shun your work mate, or laugh at them once they are gone to carry favor with the dynamics of your new team, while our company has no integrity or morals there's no reason we can't display it for our soon to be ex colleagues

I don't know what BC means but I assume it is just a fake title for conference rooms like 'strategy session' which has been used on 20+ conference rooms for the morning of the 23rd, I have never seen a strategy session at SHC in my life! I guess they can't title the meetings 'firing people meeting'. This close to the 23rd and word starts to leak out. I have heard a few at HQ discussing Thursday, people now know it's coming just in what form we don't know, leaders were uncharacteristically locked away today plotting whatever needs plotted (it's uncharacteristic as they are usually never around)

Is this for the store level too? Or Corp office only?

If you can't guess, I work in one of the stores. Not in mgmt. Associate level so nothing big.

Agreed the tax deal doesn't matter with bankruptcy pending, I'd lay off the H1B guys - they work hard with little benefits (though trump will take are of them for you if you wait long enough)

Post ID: @xws+LWZrJwd

I hope they get rid of all the H1B contractors first before laying off permanent employees. I use the term "permanent" loosely as everyone is going to lose their job with Sears Holdings very soon. Anyone who thinks otherwise is in denial.

The tax deal with Illinois will be of no consequence when SHC files bankruptcy later this year.

A 25% cut company-wide is plausible.... although estimated at 30.000 to 40.000 peeps highly unlikely

A 25% cut at Hoffman Estates just ain't gonna happen.

As of Feb 25, 2016 they had 4850 corp. employees plus 800 contractors in

Hoffman Estates. The same Feb 25, 2016 PR stated... In addition, 151 jobs

currently open in Hoffman Estates will not be filled.

A 25% cut equates to 1412 employees + or - a few. Its assumed that since the

above date a sufficient number of employees and contractors have departed

the company and may / may not have been replaced due to SHC highly

publicized and continuous problems.

Sears can't possibly be cutting 25% of jobs at Hoff. Estates. If they did they

would be have to eliminate ALL remaining contractor jobs plus 612+ corporate

positions.

Anything more would place them in violation of a 2011 contract with the State

of Illinois whereby they are required to keep AT LEAST 4200 jobs in Hoffman

Estates to continue to receive the tax breaks of the agreement.

"The deal provided an extension of Sears' local property tax deal worth $125 million, plus $150 million in state income tax breaks over the following decade. The company needs to keep at least 4,200 jobs there, according to the terms. At the time the agreement was struck, Sears employed more than 4,900 people in Hoffman Estates, as well as an additional 1,100 contract workers."
