Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

I've lost my passion... What to do?

I read some of these blogs about new storage products coming out and I just don't feel excited about our products. I used to work for one of HP's competitors back in the day before coming to work for HP (now HPE) and left because HP was all the rage. I just don't care about our products and don't care about the hoohaa that surrounds the release. I've lost that spark and to be honest, I'm "afraid" of trying to find something new. I've grown used to my job even though I don't feel passion towards it.

If you've read this so far, thank you for listening to me ramble on. I want to leave but don't know where to begin. To me, what I do is just a job. Just a paycheck. How did I let things get to this?

Perhaps you should get a lobotomy. I hear that DXC's new "benefits" package includes coverage for it at 100 percent, LOL.

Sorry to hear that you've lost the passion. I recommend that you look on Job Searcher and see if you can find something else in the company at may spark your interest. HPE is still a be company. Maybe think about mixing it up and work abroad. If nothing strikes your fancy, I suggest you move your search beyond HPE. Life is too short and there are plenty of new adventures awaiting you.

Don't let these executive clowns ruin your life or thoughts. Don't be in denial like most HPE employees are now. They have burned excellent employees. Executives at HPE are like spouses who cheat on thier significant other. Sad but true. Move on friend

HPE is just a 1 trick pony. They take a product and run it into the ground maximizing profits over building profits. To them, this the same thing and we all know it isn't. Shortsighted.

I had a wrench thrown in my career too. WFR'd . Age makes me not the most sought after. Although I am top notch, informed, educated, versatile companies are not looking for people like me. Odd thing is companies want young and inexperience folks to fill experienced roles. So in the end both companies lose and people over 50 lose when in fact that connection would make America and Companies great again. What i did was take my skill set and venture off as an avid and successful investor using my own talent and skills. My energy and enthusiasm have returned even as I watch my collegues wallow at HPE My savings in taxes alone have made me become independent, positive and very successful.

It seems like people aren't excited except for product marketing and those guys in sales who get to go to Discover. I don't know what to think of them.

The vast majority of workers aren't passionate about their job, so you shouldn't feel bad.

Stick with something you don't mind doing that's in demand and pays well. It's how I ended up in IT, and I don't have a passion for it.

Get yourself a Lynda.com account and start learning some current skills. Volunteer for a project that will allow you to make use of those skills for your resume. Update your LinkedIn profile. Network.

If you have the skills, you'll get pestered by countless headhunters. Don't let any dark thoughts about HPE filter through in your interviews. Tell potential employers you are looking for more challenges and a fresher culture. Don't bother with companies who have pages on this site (lots of employers have, believe it or not, never had to lay off employees).

Prepare your brain for something new, shake off the ennui. Look forward to something new.

You and me both mate. Bored sh--less and deskilled by the retrictive HPE service model and constant firefighting brought on by lack of training and resourcing.

If you are in the US you can expect to get the WFR talk in the not to distant future. The HUGE benefit of working at HPE is the ability to develop new job skills that may or may not relate to your actual job description. Take advantage while you can!!!!

"How did I let things get to this?"

Because we began like frogs in a pot of water and then they turned the burner on...

"...what I do is just a job. Just a paycheck."

Sorry got no answers, fine myself in the same position. Recently told the wife that I at the least better start moving or I will atrophy where I am... Move... first mentally... then maybe the soul will follow.
