So everyone knows by now how much they are pushing the new 5-3-2-1 card. But an incident today had to be the one thing that told me this is their plan to save the company. So here's my story: So I'm running my register (the only one open) and I have about seven people in my line. Most are getting a little antsy because it is taking so long to check out. The registers are slow, the pin pads don't work half the time, the SYW is confusing and now I have to ask it they are SYW members, do they want a PA with some items and now the new credit card. So, here is where it gets good. Our DM came to the store to make sure we are asking and signing up the 5 people per day. SO he is behind me watching me check people out, watching as the line gets longer, watching as I ask my questions. Well, no one wants to sign up for anything but every person that declines the DM catches them as they are leaving and starts telling them about the 5-3-2-1 card.
But it gets better. One lady comes up and she has her kids with her and she has been in line for around 10 minutes. So I go through the Sign-up jargon and half way through she says, "no to everything just check me out please" I apologize and tell her I am required to ask. She tells me that is why most people won't shop here becasue they get hassled to sign up for something. Well, my DM jumps in and starts to tell her how great the 5-3-2-1 card is and how it would be a shame she lost out on all those points. Finally, the lady just leaves her cart and walks out. The next person in line does the same becasue they don;t want to be hassled either. And the third person just tells me "don't even ask".
But wait there's more. Then my DM says "Well those people don;t really understand what a great deal they are missing and it is there loss. Some people just don;t want to save money" He says this right in front of the other customers still waiting. You could see every customers light bulb go on at once seeing that it was not about sales, customer service or anything else it was all about 5-3-2-1 sign ups.
Everyone was real nice to me even telling me they were sorry I had to ask, but if they can see through this sham of a program and the personal information grab that it is. The company is relying on the personal information they will sell to save the company---Good luck with that.
