Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Leadership is Team work That Triggers Employee Success

Last summer I decided that it was time to leave th company after receiving an offer from Google, almost a year later I am a major contributor to Google's unique work environment, is all the amazing people that are part of this team, the right mix and combination that makes this place so special, i do believe that I have accomplished more in this short year compared with the 23 years at AT&T

Here Google is referred as a person, he allows us the flexibility to work on passion projects and tap into our creativity. My peers have become teachers to help build a more creative environment is a self-reinforcing one

In Other companies Great employees have an intangible that sets them aside from their peers, and that is they have an unyielding desire to exceed their colleague’s expectations, no here They are self-motivated, exude positive energy, and possess an unrelenting team spirit, These individuals are the employees that I refer to as “get-it-done” or “goal-line-crossers”. These are those change-agents that when leadership has an absolute, must have challenge that needs to succeed at all costs, these are the personalities who are sought after, and accept the assignment, no matter how difficult, with a smile., but as a team.

They are the proverbial ace in the hole, and when the task is handed over to them, leadership has no doubt that victory will be achieved. Every business has these go-to employees who just seem to find a path forward and have the ability to make it happen, something that didn't exist when Was part of AT&T.

The word now is micromanagement of the little people.

I'm betting I know who your talking about. the guy who left in our group let people do their jobs and made sure the credit for success was due to the people who worked for him. He would challenge bosses when pay or bonuses were figured and made sure his people got the highest possible. He even offered to forgo a raise himself to give to his group. His last 3rd level supervisor was amazed at the loyalties his people gave him and reluctantly put his name on the buyout list. This concept is now lost in ATT and 2nd level and 1st level managers only care how they look and take credit for all success and blame the people under for any problems.

We had a downsizing in 2015 and the top people who took the buyout were considered not needed by executive management. the fools who replaced them are clueless and only do what's best for their own job not the people who work for them. One of the guys was replaced by 4 people to just keep up with the stuff he performed. To the amazement of the bosses they are struggling to keep up at a minimum level.

Internal fights are common. Backstabbing rules

So what about the ones who left? one guy now works for a company as a consultant in New York. He took the job after 31 offers. One would wonder why ATT would let these people go and not dump the losers.

The T is losing Good people that other smart company's love to add to their team! Google actually cares about its workers and customers and listens to them..... what a novel concept. A company that doesn't listen to it's employees and customers and treats them terrible is bound for failure.... no matter how big you are!!

I know the media reads this site. Hint, this is a great story as layoffs start to ramp up. Those high achievers who were laid off to land at industry leading tech companies and who were made to feel like outsiders who were marginalized and ignored (with good ideas).

Randall, wake up!!!!

Good for you. I know of one other person surplused and at Google.

I was surplus too. Exceeds and Excells on most of ny reviews. Sadly I made an identifiable comment/suggestion on my nps and made 2 enemies.

60k later and at 170k a year, I'm happy. Being surplused was the best thing that ever happened to me. I'm creating work products and systems being used across my region. And now being rolled out nationally at an indirect competitor.

I love these happily ever after stories and that's why I come back..after 7-8 months. To tell the good news. Att doesn't get it. It's culture is really sick and if you aren't careful it's where skill and innovative ideas go to die (or offend a senior director).
