We need to unionize. There has got to be people who know someone who can help us with this. Let's not let one person destroy Hah.

But I think because we are mostly hired as salary and told up front we may have to work what ever hours are necessary to fulfill the requirements of the job is what prevents us from being able to claim any kind of overtime I believe in nurses unions, such as california nurses union, maybe someone from their union can advise us....
My wife is a HCM/RN with Humana. I have been a member of a labor union for a very long time. The current situation with Humana is the very reason for organized labor. Layoffs would happen by seniority. Work load and metrics would be negotiated versus forced on employees. All hours over 40 in a week would be overtime. Their is true power in numbers.
I agree.
Nurses as a profession should be unionized anyway. There are a lot of benefits, and you have support when you need it. There are so many nurses across the country in a ton of settings (something like 3 million). We have the power to create change and make our practice settings safer and fair if we unite together. The problem is the people in control realize this and prevent it. It also doesn't help that nurses are mostly female and the "people in charge" are mostly male.

I'm not sure how unionizing would help? If the program was restructured and it wasn't in violation of any laws, unionizing isn't going to help. They did a brutal layoff, with little explanation of why they were changing the model of care. Sad fact it is what it is, and that's the sad state of health care and it's been this way for a long time
