Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Any holiday perks at your store?

Just wondering if Sears is offering any holiday perks to their employees at the store level. Will there be any turkey platters and sides in the break room for employees, provided by Sears? Any turkeys given out? Anything? At my store the employees were to bring in their own casseroles, desserts etc to share. Most wouldn't as they were too tired and lacked time from working the longer hours and trying to get things ready for their own families. Sears would bring the bucket of chicken from the local grocery store and another bucket of threats about firing anyone who claimed digestive issues from the cold greasy, turkey and called in sick the next day on Thanksgiving.

A family member works at Lowes. They get holiday pay on Thanksgiving and a couple of weeks ago they provided a nice luncheon for all their employees who are vets. Oh, I forgot to mention, Lowes is closed on Thanksgiving. And yet, all their employees get paid as if they worked on Thanksgiving. How nice.

We got sandwich meat, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and onions. With off brand chips for the side. Our breakroom refrigerator has filtered water, so we had that also. You have the option to buy a soda at $1.75 out of the vending machine.

No one complained because at that point we're all at mandatory overtime and would probably eat dog food at that point.

I am sure that ESL has a large stake in AutoZone. Spin off.

Just remember. Eddie has his hand in AutoZone also. That is why Sears buys parts from them. Research it.

Yeah, Autozone is reneging on their claim to buy us lunch on Friday for Auto. They said would only do Friday. We buy a lot of parts from those folks at high margin. They are going to get us pizza and it will be the cheapest ever. OK. Just don't even bother. No one can take lunch at the same time and who wants to eat old stale pizza?

You folks know what I should do? Take me SYW free Kenmore mega-roaster and make up a huge batch of chili and put it in the lunchroom with some bread some chips and a few beverages. I will just pay for it cash out of pocket. I have bought pizzas and lunches and beverages all summer and they kind of look at me funny and say that I don't have to do that. Actually, I do have to do that and I have done it.

My manager is going to argue about it with someone. Why bother? It is not worth the fight. The guys work hard...usually. We don't need charity and oh the "Oh, look what we did for you" patronization. I don't care.

And for Saturday, let's bust out the grills that I have in my garage. What would be so wrong with that? AutoZone can go to the GroceryStoreZone and buy some brats and hamburger and chip and drinks and buns and condiments. That would probably be cheaper anyway.

With no inventory to speak of, I know I will have time to man my grill.

What? Holiday pay isn't enough of a "perk" to boost employee morale? (jk) As long as the deposit is confirmed in two weeks, what more can we honestly expect from a company that loses $57 every second.

Ha Ha. It's always funny when they try to back up their ridiculous conclusions with "research". Definitely do quit and enjoy your life. All jobs at Sears Holdings should now be considered temporary.

Oh, I was just going to rant about this. I have worked for Kmart for 26 years and can remember when the holiday party (we didn't open on Thanksgiving) was held at a banquet hall. You could bring your spouse and meet people who worked different shifts etc. It was a great time and really brought the store together as a team. Then that went away and there was a party at the store. Not as good but still lots of food and you could bring your family. Then that went away and we started to open on Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving party was a pot luck. The store would provide the drinks, turkey, plates, cups, and a few more things and everyone would bring a dish to share. Not great but still O.K. even though we were working on Thanksgiving and overnight and missing our own Thanksgiving with family. But this year is the worst and I refuse to take part and might just quit and enjoy my life.

This year there is no store provided turkey or anything but drinks. The per person money given by corporate is less than $200 for our store of 90 employees, which is less than $2.00 per person. And hold on for this....we cannot bring in a dish to share because it will take us away from the floor and helping members!!!! What a crock of S**t. We get drinks (bring your own cupor drink out of can) a plate with fork, knife and spoon and some bread with lunch meat (Not deli meat but lunch meat out of the refrigerators in the store and chips. Also, no seconds because it must last for the morning and evening shifts. I feel sorry for our managers trying to keep moral up and getting people to want to work on Thanksgiving. I heard the conference call today where the DM told the managers that according to their research employees would rather work and WoW our members than spend time enjoying the meal. Ha, Ha, Ha. how out of touch are these people
