I got RIF'd over two years ago from Verizon. Best thing that ever happened. I've got a better job, better pay, better management and better work environment. So don't worry folks you'll be fine.

But I just got this "job opportunity" email today .... for a long-term Verizon job. I don't recommend anyone apply for it:

Happened to me too - someone reached to me via Linked in with a job description from VZ that was identical to my previous position. I was let go in March. I said no thank you.
