Thread regarding Follett layoffs

"For those that choose to stay"

I almost sh-- my pants when I read Ray Griffith's message just now. More changes coming. Adjustments and modifications to compensation and benefit plans. But at least he's positioning Follett for a brighter outlook "for those who choose to stay." Just wow.

BTW, I spoke to a buddy of mine who works for Barnes and Noble College. Apparently, they transitioned all their management below the store manager level to an hourly position a couple of years back. And left their pay rates unchanged. And they were allowed to work overtime during rush. Some great company we work for. Each and every team member my a--.

You shouldn't stand for it. That likely means you're looking for work. You should. Follett is a terrible place to work. This is the 2nd or 3rd time they've done this over the past 8 years. They'll do it again.

Is anyone planning to not acknowledge the pay cut in ESS? I know it means nothing, they're ramming it through anyway, but just taking it doesn't sit well with me. I signed an offer sheet that stipulated what I was going to be paid, and nowhere did it say that the company might decide to lower my compensation down the road. I may just sit on it until my RM orders me to acknowledge it, and even then, I still may not. What have I got to lose besides a terrible job with a company that clearly doesn't value the work that I do.

I agree with the other person in that probably unprofitable contracts will expire with no attempt to renew. I also think the hubris of the Nebraska deal when profits were soaring is what is driving a big chunk of this. I bet if they had a do over they wouldn't have bought out Nebraska.

Why do you think they'd fire the cheapest employees (read, the most recently hired)?

Why would they hire people just to have a lay off a few weeks or months later!

I have a feeling that they're going to start letting less profitable contacts expire without any effort to resign or renegotiate. Save on payroll and benefits. The fewer stores there are to support, the fewer bodies they need at the HO. They'll eventually slim down to a few hundred of the top ranking stores, since they make most of the profit anyway.

The ONLY reason that details of future cuts to benefits/pay aren't being shared yet is so that the mutiny will wait until after Spring Rush. Super classy.

F---ing follett, I was considering this as a career, but after the way we are treated, abandon ship. The higher ups are like those who were able to get off the Titanic and we who make the company run are the poor idiots who went down with the ship. LET'S MAKE FOLLETT GREAT AGAIN. All I have to say about that is MTA just might be going my way. I guess I'm choosing not to stay

Thoughts on what benefits they are considering to cut?

Pretty clear, continued benefit reductions, no bonus, no merits and more layoffs. Expense declines match revenue declines=family dividend

If only "for those who chose to stay" was an option in America right now. Don't forget too these announcements are drafted by Corp Comm before they reach the CEO. Mouthpieces for a company that is going into the proverbial toilet faster than the US after January. Greed giveth and greed taketh away. Unfortunately that cycle effects us all.

Don't forget the reduction in benefits and pay for those that are chosen to stay.

I also loved his heartfelt desire to be transparent and then make only make vague reference to the coming changes this fiscal year. The board put their stamp of approval on your plan already. If you were being transparent, you'd share. Nice.
