Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

What does Trump's presidency mean for Cisco?

Any idea?

I don't believe in significant changes in visa/immigration regime, but some tax holidays for repatriated profits may be on the table.

Is Trump BAU for Cisco?

First time in my life I am not proud of my country, first time I believe American citizens have become too ignorant to vote. This was the time for the Electorate vote to be used for it's original purpose and it was too ignorant to understand it's purpose as well.

Cisco showed exit door to so many skilled US citizens & then filled the positions by H1B garbage candidates. President Trump’s immigration policies will now keep that record straight.

Drumpf is in it for one thing, and one thing only - his wealth. His decisions will be driven only by what's good for his companies and companies of his family. If they have some money to repatriate, then there will be a tax hoiidays. If not, there won't be.

I don't think Trump understands our industry... its value nor importance. I would like him to focus on Smart Cities and Smart Grid. He's dismantling the EPA... and doesn't value climate change nor science.

So it doesn't look to good.

Trump will deport all immigrants. Jobs will be only for Americans. The next iPhone 8 will cost at $2,500 due to tariffs. Russia, China, Iran will be the new axis of evil. These trio will gang up on the USA. Trump will be only a 1-term president. A major great recession from 2017 till 2025 will turn all Americans into left leaning democrats. Not looking good.

The Apple tax deal with the Irish Republic pre-dates the EU itself. It's not unlike tax breaks given to most companies by state and city govts in the US (including Cisco, for example in places like RTP). The EU commissioner going after Apple is widely accused of executive overreach, but this being the (almost totally undemocratic) EU, there's little Apple can do about it.

Don't worry about your colleagues. If they are here legally, no problem.

Worry about yourself. They are going to repatriate the money now, and it is all going to go into executive bonus. There will be no focus on the company, just focus on how to squeeze the blood out of another orifice. This time, the orifice is cash grab on the repatriate.

A forward looking company would be thinking about the future product lines. This one will be thinking about future executive bonuses.

Trump has proposed a 10% tax, so the billions held overseas can come back to US. He is also going to target Chinese manufacturing by imposing tarriffs on goods made outside of US.

He mentioned about H1B Visas as well, let's hope this really scre?s up Shisco!

I don't know what it means but there were a number of colleagues from overseas worried about their work status and whether they would be able to stay in the US.

Cisco, like many other US multinationals has squirred away vast quantities of money outside of the united states which they cannot bring home unless they want to pay the taxes. Instead they can funnel money through countries where corporation taxes are much lower so this increases profits and lowers tax liability. It also means the money resides abroad though which is used for the acquisitions Cisco like to pursue! Very clever eh?

Only recently I was reading an article about Apple funneling huge quantities of cash through its Ireland offices where corporation tax is only 12.5%. This has saved them millions in tax every year but is something that has caught the eye of the EU who are investigating and penalising the company

You would imagine if President Trump lowered Corporation Tax then companies like this would not need to go to such efforts to try and evade tax, or at least utilise corporate loopholes to pay minimal tax? The money would stay in the US and he would have kept his promise to the electorate
