Thread regarding Follett layoffs

And the band played on

I'm recovering a topic that's now hidden under all the anger, betrayal, angst and disapointment that comes after management messes with the rank and file.

While they were planning your pay cuts, management was celebrating at a football game. That's right, they flew themselves, some clients and some prospects to the San Francisco Bay Area to take in the sights and enjoy a CATERED picnic before the Stanford V Colorado football game. They had game tickets, wine, beer, food. Staying around Stanford isn't cheap, either. While I don't know this for certain, it wouldn't be a stretch if they put people up in San Francisco (only 40 minutes away from Stanford).

Yep, they were spending the money they were taking out of your pocket before they told you they were taking money from you pocket!

Folks, they did the same thing 3 years ago. The cut 10% of the Stanford Bookstore's staff, they demoted many others. Whomever was left had to wait on the Senior managers who had just hurt their friends and colleagues. This is who they are. They're deplorable.

Paying a consultant to return results that you want validated. If it cost $1MM, they're going "save" 3x that number. This is how VPs are made Sr VP. They re-arrange the deck chairs, cut low level employees pay and benefits, turn in a consultants estimate on the savings and then buy a vacation home.

This is the kind of executive who goes on these junkets (Stanford and Indy).

Palo Alto and San Francisco aren't cheap. It's stupid expensive. Dear apologist, please consider that you're no going to the expense of securing an area on the track (across from the stadium), catering the lunch, providing goodie bags. paying for tickets, while flying people coach and putting them up in the local Hotel 6. Just the Follett brass alone had to cost over $100K to bring in, put up and to entertain.

For many companies, this new labor law is concerning and will cause some hardships on the company. The intent of the law is to make employees lives better. I have a feeling this is a blessing to Follett - it's an excuse to cut labor costs almost across the board. I bet RG, CW and BS enjoyed a nice expensive champagne toast (on the company card, of course!).

And lets not forget about the quarterly trips to India by the home office.

Yeah - screw them! Screw Follett !

What they just did is NOT right and NOT okay.

I quit and I am mad as hell. This kind of manipulation of the labor laws should not be allowed.

I hope there is a class action lawsuit against them.

The management of Follett that pulled this off can all go "f" themselves.

Um, 200+ a night according to the prices listed in their website? Regardless of your opinion of the city, those expenses add up. Fast. Googles your friend.

And numerous people were put up at the Marriott in Indianapolis earlier in October....Put up for at least five days to attend a convention. Which means round trip plane tickets, comp'd meals, and oh...the Marriott. But hey, we can't afford to give raises this year and we definitely need to cut your pay to be able to afford to pay you overtime -- but only when we tell you that you are allowed to work overtime. Never mind if you will need to take a second job to actually be able to make ends meet during the times we tell you that you are NOT allowed to work overtime.
