I work at the Kailua Kona Kmart; we have been open 365 days a year for the last five years. Eddie only cares about money. Sadly, the company will not be saved by the $50k we take in Sunday.

I work on the Kmart side. We have a crew coming in at 6 am on Christmas Day for tear down of the holiday signs/promotions and set-up for normal sales operations on Monday. We used to have an overnight crew for this work, but an early 1st shift is a nice compromise (since night differential pay stopped years ago).

I am gone. But, I will do The SHC Boogie. I will punch in and collect my wages and do the work that they are paying me for, right? Guess what they are paying for? It is called the 'SHC get down boogie'. SHC has run for the hills and left us holding the bag. I don't know nothing about that bag. I clock in and I clock out. The money is SHC deal. I'm just a fixture in the store like a shelf or rack. I clock in and I clock out till it is over. My name is FIXTURE. I use to care a lot. More than I was ever paid for....now I will Boogie till it's over.

Former store manager here. Every year Eddie says the stores MUST be ready for business the day after Xmas with no signs of Christmas left up like there's going to be a big rush of shoppers, lol. Every other retailer closes their door on Xmas Eve without a care as to store condition to let their employees enjoy what is left of xmas eve but because Eddie is an a***ole he makes this unreasonable rule. The actual direction from the company is Eddie wants a crew to report to the store at 3am Christmas night/early day after xmas to get the store ready. Your SM is probably trying to find a way not to ruin Xmas day by forcing a crew to have to report at 3 am. Frankly, when I was with the company last xmas I said the hell with it, closed the doors on xmas eve at closing time and we left. I refused to make a crew come in overnight on xmas. Who's going to know - and at this point, care? If I were you I would walk out at your scheduled time. Do not give them yet another holiday when the end is near anyway.

It sure doesn't seem like they do. I have a question, perhaps any of the store managers could answer. We know Sears is in financial trouble. Employees understand that there will not be any raises, benefits, perks etc. But the ONE thing Sears could do which wouldn't even cost them any money is to be considerate of the employees, in other words....nice. But they do not even do that.

For example, the employees are busy doing more work with less people. They are running around helping customers, ringing registers, answering phones and trying to get the truck done, the ad set, out of stocks completed, the fitting rooms cleared and the store cleaned, all with 2 cashiers and 1 MCA. The manager told the employees today, "No one leaves tomorrow night (Christmas Eve) until the whole store is completely straight and the ad is set."

If they have enough people scheduled it should not be a problem, but they won't. Personally I would tell the manager good night when my SCHEDULED time to leave arrived and would wish him a Merry Christmas. Why do these manager have to be such arses? You have moms and dads who just want to get home to their families and finish Xmas preps. They are tired. Sears is closed on Sunday. Monday is just another day. If the store is unkempt, it can be dealt with on Monday, not Xmas Eve. They should lock the doors at 5:00, do the money bit and tell everyone to clock out and enjoy their holiday. Why such idiots?

Also, manager said 3 weeks ago he was going to give the employees a Xmas party. No one has heard a thing since. There is no posting of any party or sign up sheet to bring anything. There has been nothing. Do you think the holiday season will really go by without even a potluck or mention of the holidays or do you think the employees will show up for work tomorrow and there will be a big spread of food, compliments of Sears?

No they really don't. Schedule for next week came out on Thursday and people already have their hours cut. Seasonal help.....Bu-beye. Thanks for your Thanksgiving night, weekends through the holiday season and Christmas Eve, now you can go.

True. But I would argue "they" aren't as big of a group as you think it is.
