Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Relocation packages evaporating.

Another reason this company doesn't retain talent. I wasn't laid off...I actually walked away/terminated because of the raw deal I received on my new job offer. But it wasn't completely my choice to leave.

I was pressured by my boss and director to take a job in another city or else "do not consider applying for another job for 2 years" even though I asked not to be considered for the position in this city.

So of course, you have to accept the job before you get the financial offer. Well, the pay was lateral and there was no relocation package. I couldn't sell my house for a profit. I informed my new boss and he offered to help me get back into my former position and there were a few openings.

My former boss and director, for whatever reason, didn't want me back. I was a multi time award winner, did all of the 2020 trainings on my own time, had a high performing team, and was in management development programs. Because I couldn't move, I was terminated. I felt betrayed by my former boss and director and I have no idea what I did to deserve the treatment I did. I have a new job and I'm infinitely happier now.

It's just amazing that this company won't pay relocation packages in order to retain top people. Based on everything I've read here my situation is not unique. And this is why the company can't compete with other tech companies.

If you are above AVP and told to move to Dallas they get a package. Everyone else, no dice. I don't even apply to jos for relocation. I am not dropping the tens of thousands of dollars (yes it takes more than 1, 500 bucks to move an entire household.) to move to a job where T can drop me on a whim. If T paid relo they wouldn't be dropping folks. if you are single and in an apartment, a no pay relo deal may work for you and you may get some of your expenses paid, but if you own a house and have a family and don't have tons and tons of time to do it all yourself, you are screwed.

Almost same situation as OP. I believe this will be T's undoing. Too many stories with same result. If management is reading, take notice before its too late.
