Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

REALITY CHECK ....well said

Perception versus reality, be smart and plan ahead.

Folks, let's be honest... this is BUSINESS. This is not a marriage or a relationship with obligations and ZERO conditions. This is not "unconditional love", it's a mutual business relationship that comes with conditions and no guarantees. Think about it like this, as an employee you have the right to resign if another company makes you a better offer, or you need to move to a new city or simply stop working to care for a loved one, that is YOUR right to choose based on your needs. The same logic applies here. This is business and it has not been a secret you must keep yourself relevant as we move towards 2020. We as employees and individuals have a responsibility to always have a plan and be financially prepared for this type of situation. Seriously this shouldn't be a surprise, over the last couple of years the message has been loud and clear. I made a decision to become debt free, utilize the tuition reimbursement program, network inside and outside the company, find ways to keep my self relevant and work without losing focus over these recent changes. That proactive mindset to plan along with the positivity to prosper in this environment is the best that I can do. The rest is up to God. Cheer up folks, this is not about life and death. It's a job and at most a career change. You'll be fine!

Don't waste your time trolling the internet, update your resume, go to a seminar, offer to do side by sides with positions within your org. Think outside the box! You will never be free if your are trapped within the box ;)

A job loss is really whatever the he!l you want it to be: relief, grief, loss, death, freedom, renewal. There are many cycles to loss. My only wish is that a person doesn't become immobilized by it.

He'll I got a 45% increase In my salary in 20 days after surplus notification, started a side hustle, etc. and gearing up for other independent streams, and I'm still pis?!sed w/ how my situation went down.

But who are you to tell me or anyone, when our time is up for being pis!sed - it motivates me.

I've even decided to get my MBA with a concentration in organizational management and culture just from what I've experienced. I'm turning my mess into a message.

So again keep your sick culture koolaid drinking group think bs to yourself.

With all due respect, a job loss Isn't "death", it's a job and that one job hasn't been there always and it won't be there forever. I am puzzled by the separation anxiety a lot of people have for jobs or companies they have zero respect for, it's strange. I am young and the surplus concept was not something I heard of before.

I wanted to become more

Informed. sadly I went through so many angry posts, people just venting. I'm not sure who that benefitted, thankfully I found a logical cool calm and collected post.

An older person who Said the best decision they ever made was to become financially prepared... for anything not just a job loss. Financial freedom truly makes you feel free. Since that burden has been removed I can focus on what I love to do and what I am good at and if or when it's time for me to go.... that's ok. I'm not sure why older people keep referencing "drinking the kool aid" us milenials call it being positive and appreciative of what's in front of you.

I wish more people would post stuff like this. I'm sorry if you are older and have kids, I truly am but it would be nice to see more wise advise than rants.

Wpy--did u actually read what op wrote?? The op is "prospering" inside of the dysfunction and using Randy's buzz words.

Sadly the OP is cultivating a false sense of "I'm ok" because I'm networking and still "here".

I beleive many koolaid drinkers are so conditioned to work in this sort of weird dysfunction- they wouldn't make it anywhere else. And there are HR teams across all these tech companies who want to keep these used car salesmen out.

I agree with the OP. The company has been telegraphing for a long time and stringing you all along with 2020 training BS. When they say take these ATT courses, which have no industry relevance, they are just holding a carrot in your face, so they can cover the labor contracts, and keep folks around until they can finally cut the physical layer.

You really should be looking outside the company and control the only thing you can, yourself. Quit blaming something out of your control.

I wouldn't be surprised if this post was apart of the active spin/or pr campaign. Similar to Randy /CEO of the year.

If not you've got people embedded in dangerous group think who rely on ""networking" and the horrible 2020 training.

This is part of the reason att can't innovate. Randy only breeds these used car salesman who can only retool to the extent of being told what and how to do it.

Where are the disrupters...

Used car salespeople en masse are tanking this company. But this is the house Randy built.

Big difference here is that the company paints a great picture for you and your future which is not based in reality. While pushing you to hit your metrics they are planning your demise at the same time. Just look at the amounts of cuts we have had and what's on the horizon. For those of us in National Retail we are out in the field even though the end is near. For COR folks its even worse knowing that the stores will be flipped to AR. And for AR there is no clear indication of what will come. Only response is BAU. Senior leadership are taking buy outs at an alarming rate while the rest of just try to get through the holidays.

Why is having a strong opinion about the company's direction.."trolling" - you've written that before. This forum gives people a voice that they can't express otherwise without retributionon their nps.

This is a safe(er) space. And btw it's read by leadership, press and even large investors (one who commented here a few months ago.

Yes it's all business. And yes this environment has many underlying messages on personal/professional growth and even lessons on being an entrepreneur (with or without a side hustle)

But you can't "troll" and antagonize others on when it's time to grieve (a job loss is a death), what's personal (my surplus was actually after respectfully noting systemic issues in my nps.

My goal is to raise awareness of this cautionary tale that is att.

While that may be, and it is important to stay flexible and self-develop yourself, the company does a very poor job at recognizing those who actually put in the time to develop.

Also, the company does an EXTREMELY poor job at making it worth while to move to other cities even though they treat you like a military family. I started the thread about lateral pay and no relocation that I was essentially forced into taking under the threat of "committing career suicide."

Plus, as much as you say it's "just a job," the company does a great job of making its employees believe there is no life outside of the company. People drink the Kool Aid and then shame those that left privately.
