Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Did Houston just block FB and Twitter on the CVX network?

Wasting money on HODOERS hats and organic bags and now this definitely isn't helping an already low morale.

This just cracks me up. 2azz - if this were your company, say a startup, and you had to ponder every hiring decision to make sure you were hiring people who were valuable to the company, would you tolerate unlimited social media usage to 'boost morale?' Go read your post, and pretend it is not you. These days, your morale should be sky high just because you have a job, and every day you should give thanks, not b--ch. You've got it pretty good, whether or not it is clear to you. Now go do some work, keep my dividends up there.

Lynn, still lots of BU' s loaded with dead wood. NMA is a prime example. I was amazed that on a recent visit every cube packed with people ALL glued to screens (but none of them were cvx) But your correct nobody should have that much time at work.

Company policy says personal use of the internet is allowed as long as it is incidental. They should simply define incidental and cut off anyone who uses it more than an incidental number of minutes per day. Strikes me that 20 minutes per day is incidental. I'm sure our gifted IT dept could come with a tool which warns people after more than 20 minutes that they are outside corp policy and emails their supervisor after 30 minutes.

More worringly, is how is it possible that with reduced workforce everyone is not flat out? I know where I am everyone is at hard at it 10+ hours per day and up to 16 trying to cope with the work load. The last thing anyone has time for is social media.

@2azz can you explain exactly why being able to access social media from your work computer should be allowed? You sound like you're pretty angry about this and I agree with @2ufq and you didn't answer his question regarding the phone....you just started ranting. I'm not trying to instigate a fight here but understand the thoughts. I've never been on social media from my work computer and don't really want to. BTW......I'm a conservative and voted Republican too so don't try to make this a political post.

@2ufq, I dumped my company phone for the same reason I vote Republican, you twit. i won't bother with explaining any further. You can figure it out or continue to troll.

2hoe - looks like 2xfj hit pretty close to where you live. Why did you feel compelled to dump your company paid iphone?

@2fxj, that jerk Drill Sargent you refer to is NOT spot on. You say that a System Admin told you something about we're half the internet traffic is coming from? Well, the solution is not blocking Social and external sites from everyone. The solution is reprimanding the easily identified offending slackers on the job. Demand that the supervisors do their jobs by managing their direct reports, including stern reprimands in front of HR. But, because Chevron is afraid to confront their employees, they throw the baby out with the bath water. Everyone gets blocked from FB, Twitter and their Personal Email. Once again, an example of Chevron wimping out. THAT'S WHY I DUMPED MY COMPANY PAID iPHONE FOR A PERSONAL ONE.

A sysadmin told me an analysis of network traffic showed about 50% was due to employees downloading netflix etc. movies. That's way more than one or two people fcking off on the job. 2fjh is spot on.

That's right, 1yyh, medical literature now says typing on the computer keyboard is not a key factor for carpal tunnel syndrome. But, jacking off five times a day is.

And to make sure that you won't have an ergonomic injury, we will interrupt your train of thought every 2 minutes with a microbrew. Dept managers will take credit for reducing injuries (insurance bills) even though medical literature now says typing is not a key factor for carpal tunnel syndrome.

@awd, That's a damn shame these things will all be blocked. From now on I'll have nothing left to do all day. I guess I'll be on the toilet more often. The company better stock up on twice the toilet paper. There's a lot of others who will be using the bathrooms more often, so Chevron better think of installing turnstiles outside the bathrooms or include them in the resource scheduling system. No appointment = dirty underwear.

Sounds like we are getting to be more Exxon like so far as blocking outside email. Regarding facebook and such, that needs to be blocked.

Facebook and Twitter are blocked throughout all of CNAEP now. Outside email will be blocked in 2017.

Both FB & Twitter have no place in a company network. No social media sites should be accessible on work pc's.

Good post @zph. Morale is more important than stupid slogans and cheap merchandise. Chevron doesn't have any 'Wizards of Smart' in the right places when it comes to motivating the workforce. BTW, I've always maintained 3 points of contact anytime I'm on a Chevron property: My A$$, My Crotch, and My Wallet. All these points are at risk these days. Be on guard, my friend.

PLEASE! Just calm down. Be sure to hold onto a handrail, when on stairs. Remember, three points of contact, when entering/exiting a vehicle. And, drink plenty of water. Your SAFETY is our primary concern. Your morale is YOUR problem. (I've always felt that morale is an integral link to personal safety,... if an employee is worried sick about losing their job, you've got to think that the risk of accident/injury is going to be higher due to preoccupation, if nothing else. But, that connection never seems to be made by our Wizards Of Smart.) Well,... Good Luck and Merry Christmas to all.
