Why?
I thought the whole point of these WFRs was to cut costs and move the workforce overseas for cheap labor. Then how in the f--- is this supposed to make sense. Are execs just completely f---ed in the head?

It's a terrible strategy long term, if you are trying to rebuild your company into a viable business, great strategy short term, where Wall Street adores the churn and rewards it with temporary stock value increases.
It's the strategy of a vapid, clueless, visionless CEO and board who intend on destroying a company after they maximize their payouts and bonuses and move on.
Yes it is very much true that lay off are happening at low cost region also, in which some of new college graduates hired last year also included, but point i am not getting is same time they hired 40+ freshers from a institute yet to join. They trust new talent more than current employees? Foolish strategy.
I don't think the OP is concerned about the employees' heritage. The point seems to be that we should not be replacing qualified American workers with foreign visa holders.
Several Indian peers here in Palo Alto celebrated with us today what they call "Diwali" by cooking food from their Country. They are really nice people, and I love the few things they have taught me about their culture. For me it's a true honor to work in such a diverse environment here at HPE. Diversity of cultures, religions, ethnicity, and ways of thinking are what really makes this Country great. My message to our peers from other Countries living here in the US... While sometimes you my read offensive, ignorant comments in forums like these, be very confident that those people don't represent this Country. We value diversity, and we grow stronger as a Nation by having you here. Happy Diwali, and thanks for that nice gesture of bringing lunch today!!
Sorry, I didn't know a post like this would bring the nutters out of the loony bin. Some of these people could probably turn a discussion about the weather into a political debate. I was just curious. Why are we firing our lowest-cost workers to save money, only to later hire more low-cost workers? It makes no sense.
It is happening in Brazil, my sh--ty country as well. HPE is going to layoff 35% of its workforce by the end of November. No one is safe. Not even the cheap ones.
It frightens me some of the comments that I see on this thread... I wonder how many people around me think the same way, but don't verbalize it. Sad and very worrisome at the same time...
THANK YOU, @gwc.
@FNO and @MBJ
The post is a red meat post meant to divide. To take a natural angst of losing ones job, create a demon (minorites), and then smear the probable intended target (in this case Trump, could be anybody by the way).
My response to @MBJ
No it is not minorities, it is persons, human beings who want to feed their families and are will to let a White Knight come to their community with the promise of wages. Yep, lower than what you were paid. The people wanting to work are not the problem it is the bean counters who promote near-shoring and outsourcing as a purely fiscal solution that actually provide no value to customer.
Support Trump - good for you. Support Hillary - good for you. Either way Vote November 8 so you can gripe on Wednesday. Otherwise shut up.
Yes, this does need to be stopped. Something we can all agree on.

"I think this post is fake, and just to provoke nasty comments. Sorry, dude... It won't work..."
I work in a group at HPE with a large contingency in Bangalore. They recently had 120 WFRs. I got that from an engineering manager over there. I think HPE corporate is just on autopilot these days, just waiting for whoever the next CEO is going to be when Meg goes to Washington. That was on Black Monday recently.
