Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I heard from ex-collueages that companies are hesitant to hire those laidoff from Cisco, have you heard the same?

Lots of offers - nearly LR ex-colleague I know went to bigger and better things, and even took other talents with them.

If an employer won't hire you because of a company you worked for, you probably don't want to work for that person or that company.

one of my friends interview was cut just in 3rd round when the director came and told him that shishco folks wont be able to survive in their company environment. sysco is so popular

shischo? sysco? Go troll somewhere else. Why would a director come into a third round interview just to tell someone that they won't be offered the job? Don't director's have better things to do with their time? Just tell HR to send the standard "Thank you for your interest in our company, but unfortunately we are not able to extend an offer to you at this time." letter.

Everyone I know that got impacted this year has a new job with pay raise.

I know a few who've gotten new jobs, but one was a "red badge" job somewhere and I have no idea whether or not it's more or less pay. I see more who are attending networking sessions at LHH every week from Cisco than I know that have found jobs.

The only place I've heard that having Cisco on your resume is bad is posts & comments here. I get calls all the time from companies & recruiters looking for technical Cisco skills of one kind or another and don't bother to look at my resume to see that I was in IT, not development or Advanced Services/TAC. I have no router/switching/networking experience. My job at Cisco was the same job description that I've had at half a dozen other companies over the past 20 yrs and has nothing to do with "Cisco".

Facebook straight up told me I need two years outside of Cisco to 'clear myself' of them. So, you know, mileage varies.

Can't say I am getting that reaction and I was one of the lucky people to get LR this time. I would nearly go as far as saying the opposite is true? But maybe it's different in certain locations. I'm UK based and in S/W development. Reaction has been hugely encouraging and very positive.

the hesitation is not because you got LR'd . The hesitation is because , the outsiders think, Anyone still able to hang in there ( within cisco), is an expert at playing politics and has no skill set ( applicable for all genres of employment). So they dont even want to consider, any resume that lists Cisco as employer.

I haven't heard that. Even though I wasn't affected, I still got phone calls the day after announcements asking if I was and if I was in the market.

Can't see why. They've been doing it every year for the last decade, and it doesn't seem to be linked to performance or even pay (I know of grade 6s and people all the way to directors who got cut, despite having great performance ratings and genuinely being good at their jobs).

It didn't hinder me when I was one of the laid off a few years back. Having Cisco on the CV still gets people interested.

Not true. I was pursued by a number of companies and partners after the last LR. Lots of flexibility in compensation models and focus.
