I would agree with the fellow who tried to defend at&t, but their actions show that they are not merely trimming wireline employees --- they're killing jobs across all their segments.
Add to that how the execs will spend ,millions, if not billions, on something without reservation, yet will go into major disaster mode over having to pay a worker overtime, or stressing about the cost of coffee in breakrooms.
Something is definitely off about the priorities of senior executives. Their disdain and lack of concern for their employees (L1 and 2, in particular) is astounding.
but never offer long time employees to retrain for jobs available, kick them to the curb to hire new employees and pay them less with less benifits also send our jobs to venders overseas , India and the Philippines seem to be where most are, love having Americans personal information exposed to other countries
Layoffs is never something most companies want to do. The simple fact is the work for landlines is no longer there. Anyone can go online and see what positions are availible. The majority of which are software related. AT&T has been miving away from wired products for quite some time now. If you owned your own company how long would you pay folks to do half the work they used to? It has nothing to do with profit. Anyone who is not currently effected should see what jobs are currently available, take the free schooling available for employees, and prepare for your future if you plan to stay with att. Not many if any companies pay what they do.
Probably something as simple and self-centered as just wanting to be able to pose and strut around in executive sky boxes.
Being a sociopath is a major requirement for success in corporate America.
They sponsor everything under the sun but their employees!
