I recieved an unofficial layoff notice this week, but was wondering if anyone knows when we will actually get the paperwork.

I think for a manager to tell their report personally is very respectful.
@vnu - not sure exactly what the OP meant by "unofficial" layoff, but similar messages happened in my group (ES CABO) when we suffered a massive staff reduction in July. Our boss was kind enough to give the impacted staff a personal call late in the week to tell them their names were on the list and they would be receiving the official HR notice on Monday (or the following Monday), as another comment here also mentioned. I was spared in this time, but will likely be cut in the next round of WFRs. I asked some of my impacted colleagues if that phone call from our supervisor was a good or bad thing since it undoubtedly ruined their weekend before the official WFR. Each one said they appreciated the personal call from our boss because it helped them be more mentally prepared for the official and impersonal HR notice that was coming in a few days. This is a bad situation for everyone, certainly for the staff cut, those of us just waiting for our turn, and even for the first line supervisors who are tasked with delivering this bad news, sometimes to colleagues they have worked with for decades. S---s all the way around, becoming a very toxic and depressing working atmosphere in ES.
Never heard of an unofficial layoff. They generally give you the information you need to read through the day of your two week layoff notice.
How reliable is this?
