Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco layoff doesnt include contractor workers.

Real number for actual employees without work is much higher. Most contractors are minorities and they do not count in the actual number of employee layoffs. They just end their contracts but still have to find jobs. And with severance pay they are the worst off. This is what cisco does, most if their staff are contractors and just taking advantage of the laws.

Exactly, it's like buying flowers for the lobby. One day, an exec can just decide to cut the flower service, and at the end of the current purchasing cycle/contract, the flowers are gone.

I agree. The OP is off base and misguided here. When you take on contact work (in the USA) you should understand your situation. As much as you might want to think you are an employee, you are not. You are even more of a number/commodity/pawn than the rest of us FTEs.

Sorry.

Some of your analysis is missing financial background. When the Balance Sheet speaks, the Executive listens, the Board of Directors agrees, and the Shareholders rejoice. That's rule number 1.

So, what does the Balance Sheet say?

First of all, it says that employees and contractors are treated differently from a financial point of view. A contractor is considered to be a "professional expense" whereas an employee is considered to be a "payroll liability". When you understand the difference between the two, you will understand the entire mechanism and not jump to the conclusion about "taking advantage of the laws".
