Sperry can be a bit arrogant at times. And maybe to a fault. Never was much for improvements or 2nd generations either. I guess there have been personnel changes over the years, but the results speak for themselves. If that is the right approach, maybe the personel picked for the change was wrong. But, the response will be that HAL itself wouldn't provide support for modernizing the fleet.
HAHAHA........The entire Geo-Pilot Program is a farce. We were operating a tool that was a Generation 1 while Baker and SLB were all Generation 8 or above. The design was over engineered. The tool is 10+ meters long with a drive-shaft. Power Drive and Auto-Trak are 3 or 4 meter long and no shaft. When you tried to tell that to the boys from Nisku they thought you were being anti-Sperry and wanted to fight.
Then the powers that be came out with THE DIRIGO!!!!! Guess what that was?? They simply flipped the Box and Pin connections around!!!!! WOW, NEW TECHNOLOGY!! I went before the customer and was gutted for even having the balls to present that to them.
Sperry needs to cut ties with JOGMEC. Yes they still have to brand it with Japanese Oil and Gas stickers. The V-Pilot.....not the Sperry iteration, but the TDI version works wonders in top hole sections. Like a laser, less than 0.25 Degrees deviation in 2000 meters of top hole and 3 different hole sizes.
Sperry will never learn. They should be spun off and picked up by someone who will invest in them.
to the original poster: I'm not a HAL employee, but are you saying that HAL is shutting down the Geo-Pilot product line and replacing it with something else?
