A future employer may verify the dates of employment. Will Cisco HR also release the reason for leaving, i.e. layoff?
[I was asking this within an other thread, but didn't get an answer. I'm very curious and open now a thread on its own.]

Outsourced to India. Trained my replacement. They loved it.
Just say the whole team got wiped out. Keep it simple
All that they are supposed to release is the dates of your employment. There really is no stigma about being laid off any more. Nor is any employer really likely to check. If you are really worried about them not believing you then keep a copy of the first page of your notification letter and show them.
I got layoffed on 18th aug. I have been interviewing and the first question I am asked in in-person interview is - "Whats going on with Cisco ?"
To this my reply is - "I will be honest with you. My position has been impacted and they are heavly moving jobs to India"
