Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Always some truth to the rumor.

Fact- Local Area Managers in IEFS being told to hold off on any headcount shifts.

Rumor- AT&T in talks to sell off UV video services and go to a DTV only platform. Existing UV video customers will be CLEC with prem work covered by another company.

Fact- California management jobs being relocated to Dallas area.

Rumor- AT&T to sell off California wireline services.

In both cases it's the cost of doing business.

UV is bleeding money and the cost has now outweighed the benefit to the company. AT&T has already said that Satellite is the future, at the same time not training the existing prem tech work group to take on that role. They have stopped selling traditional uverse video services and moved to DTV as the number one sell.

California and Union laws have made to cost of business too high in that state.

AT&T will be majority LTE/ DTV/ Fiber in the future.

I can't believe they are still offering DSL, 768k service, and in battle with Google fiber,, When AT&T purchased DirecTV, merger conditions imposed by the Federal Communications Commission required the ISP to offer Internet service for either $5 or $10 a month to people with low incomes.

But AT&T has found a way around this requirement in areas where the company has failed to upgrade its network to anything remotely resembling modern Internet service. If you live in a place where AT&T's maximum download speeds are less than a paltry 3Mbps, you can't get the discount from the new "Access from AT&T" program.

When AT&T promises broadband—but delivers only 3 Meg, The FCC merger condition appears to require discount Internet service only in areas where speeds of at least 3Mbps are available.
