Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Observation

People need to understand that this is nothing personal, it's just business. The number one goal for every employee is to make money for the company, and sometimes people forget that the leadership team plays a big part in that. It is their job to run the company as efficiently as possible while maximizing profits. Reorgs/restructuring are never fun and believe me......management doesn't like having to do this anymore than everyone having to experience it. Oil and gas is still down and it's affecting all O&G companies across the board, not just Enbridge. Look at the number of companies that have filed for bankruptcy, it's bad everywhere.

I know people are stressed, and it's completely understandable, but bad mouthing the company and having a bad attitude is not the way to go. We can't worry about things that are out of our control [like the reorg], but we can control how we react to things. You don't want to ever give anyone a reason to say anything negative about you to anyone, no matter who they are. Times are tough and are only going to get tougher, but set an example for everyone as how to act. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the reorg, but everything happens for a reason. Most will not see it now but in the long run everyone will end up better off one way or another.

Well let's understand one thing. Enbridge will make money dispite itself. An f'ing monkey could run this company and make money. Layoffs are based on who you fit in with. I would not blame Accountants. It would be better to say A--holes cannot run a company. After the major projects debacle Al Monaco should have been horsewhiped in front the shareholders. I was there for 12 yrs. There is only one thing that is for sure trust nobody. The Tower is a horrible place. It's just business? Integrity and respect? Shake your head.

It is ALWAYS personal..they layoff people not positions. Enbridge has been run on corruption and nepotism for years. Now that they family clans are aging, ENB has to protect their bottom line by culling the herd before the pension plan goes bankrupt..by the way does anyone notice that every year when they get their pension statements the pension plan is on 70% covered..... watch out kids...your pensions are not secure. Get a lump sum payout and be on your way

Whatever your opinion is never use the phrase it's not personal its business. It's never personal to the person who says it. Don't take it personally but your boss may not like you. Don't take it personally someone had to go. It's not you its me.

I was laid off last November and I still have respect for the company and its core values. To me, it was evident how everybody shared the same respect and pride for working for the company - some departments more so than others but that is beside the point. Sadly, I have to say that I can no longer feel the same about Enbridge employees. It is true that the Canadian energy sector is still severely affected and that numerous companies are still going through different restructuring processes to strategically remain in business. However, what is unacceptable is the lack of acknowledgement and yes, respect, that executive management is showing to its employees. Pretending that nothing is going on, while various signage for United Way are still asking for people's donations is just absurd and outright insensitive to what is truly in people's minds and hearts these days. I do feel sorry for the uncertainty and stress that is affecting everybody right now and I can only hope that the executives will finally react with the required level of dignity and maturity that is demanded now, and put on their "big boy pants". They need to understand that the corporate image of the company is severely damaged and it is not particularly due to the layoffs, but more so due to their poor management of the situation. The emergence of sites like these show only a sign of weakness that should serve as waking call for those on top: perhaps it is time to change the secrecy approach that has so far proven only successful at keeping people on their toes, questioning if they are going to be next! Executive management needs to live up to the values of integrity and respect that they so professed and truly show it to others at this time!

The person or group who wrote this needs to understand that saying "It's not personal, it's just business" is the most non-empathetic saying on the planet. You are talking about peoples means of supporting their family. We do all understand the situation and the tough decisions, however the majority of people commenting on how this is being handled and how we got to this point.

What people need is support and leadership, both have been lacking to this point. Leadership is something that you cannot train, contrary to our company's belief. What has been going on throughout the BOEF program is the continued degradation of the morale in the company. This slow twisting in the wind is removing what morale remained, in this tough oil and gas environment.

ELT has been speaking of our values but have failed to understand how to effectively communicate to their organization. They have hired outside consultants to usher in this new program that do not understand the culture of the company that they are trying to help. The best policy is to do what you say. So, what needs to occur is if you say you're going to be open and honest with communications then do so.

Additionally, in this time the worst thing that you can say to an employee is that you don't like this anymore than they do. Remember this isn't about you, when you have just given someone the very personal news that they are no longer employed or you are demoting them. Stop trying to be everyone's counselor and just get this st over with and then communicate to everyone that this st is over with.

That's fine. It's all well and good. BUT remember this b---s--- line the next time you:

1) ask us to post your bullsh!t videos to our personal social media

2) ask us to participate in your bullsh!t united way events

3) ask us to promote the company's image in our local communities

4) ask us to put your bumper stickers on our personal vehicles

5) get upset when the market rebounds and there's a mass exodus of the few talented employees left for better, higher-paying jobs

Etc, etc, etc.

You can't have it both ways. We're either just employees and it's just business, or you care about us and expect us to care about your business.

Wow, what an inspiring speech. Did ELT craft it as a group, or did you go rogue and write it yourself? It really puts things in perspective! Safety Integrity Respect!

Save this condescending bullsh!t. You aren't doing yourself or ELT any favours.

"Management doesn't like doing this"; our hearts bleed for you guys.

Stick to maximizing profits for yourself and your shareholders. Empathy and communication aren't your strongpoints.

BS The volume are not down and management mismanaged. Accounts cannot run companies they just add and subtract. Great leaders foresee the future and plan for flexablity, that is why they get the big bucks. It is just business you know.
