How do we get management to go ahead and close Bartlesville?

Let us transfer to Houston!

In past times, 1990-2010, Bville was a good place to raise a family. It was also a good place for young people to save a lot of money. It is a brutal place to be single. I spent half of my career in OK and half in Houston. The morality and humanity of the work force in Bville is really outstanding. In Houston, you will find bad politics, back stabbing, etc. Houston has a lot more to do, better school options, world class air connections. If you loose your job in Bville, you will suffer financially. In Houston there are many more options. The future does not look good for Bville. I can definitely see both Phillips 66 and ConocoPhillips pulling out in the next 5-10 years. What it comes down to is that some people like small towns, some people like cities. There are pros and cons to both, they are radically different places.

Don't forget no tax on groceries either. And we have real beer.

There is definitely good and bad points for both locations; however, I will gladly spend extra time in traffic to live in a top notch school district and give my children the best education that I can. Say what you will about my commute, that's a small price to pay for the advantage my children have over the children of Bartlesville. That's irrefutable. And on taxes, the difference between what I paid in state income tax in OK and property tax in TX is minimal. Not even a valid counterpoint.

You must be from Katy. It was $474K, Lived in Houston 3 times. Not ignorant of good and bad in both towns.

$13,000 in property taxes would be on a home that was $400-$450. If you can afford that, you cannot complain about property taxes. Sounds like you've lived in Houston before, or are you just making ignorant assumptions?

Don't forget about the 0 income taxes in Texas though and the fact that unless you're going to buy a house you'll never be able to sell in Bartlesville, you'll be driving 45 mins to an hour to work in Oklahoma too from Tulsa or Owasso.

Yeah, move to Katy, pay about $13,000 a year in property taxes and you get a 70 million dollar high school football stadium. Drive for a hour minimum in rush hour traffic each way if it is accident free.

It was mentioned below, and should be one of the top considerations when considering Bartlesville or Houston. Oklahoma schools as a whole are terrible. The school systems in Texas are phenomenally better. If you want a bright future for your kids, get them out of Bartlesville/Owasso.

So true and well said 2wij.

The difference here is they won't let us out! The only way out looks like they need to shut it down and let us transfer!

I lived and worked in Bartlesville for several years and was very excited to come back to Houston. There are pluses and minuses to both, but Bartlesville loses every time when you compare the schools for your kids, cultural opportunities, sports venues, shopping (even if you were to only look at grocery shopping alone which everyone has to do), and restaurants. I'll put up with traffic and live in a good area where crime is not a problem. But those are all personal reasons to make the move. The business case to close down Bartlesville and return all services to Houston just makes sense. Long term cost savings vs. some short term exit costs make it a very worth while option. When you factor in the ongoing talent upgrade you can make by being able to fish in a big pond...need I say more?

How long did you live in Houston?

Not to mention the crime, high property taxes, drugs, Venezuela mafia, everyday murders and on and on. No thanks not for me.

I can't imagine anybody who has lived and worked in a smaller town environment like Bartlesville willingly wanting to transfer to Houston. Life is too short to spend a large amount of it sitting in hours and hours of rush hour traffic. Be careful what you wish for.
