Completely agree 2nme. Not sure why this has not come up more, but it's time for Rebecca to go. The hatred held for IT buy Sales, Marketing and Engineering is so thick you can cut it with a knife. The amount of time and effort they spend just trying to circumvent IT, wastes tens of millions of dollars every year.

It is a primarily offshore workforce overseen by a management team who could care less beyond their own promotion.

What LR? A new position in high end routing was just created and filled by someone from Juniper. No surprise, this new engineering vp is Indian. An addition to the bunch of dead woods that are in engineering already.

I'm on PTO so when I get back I will be looking for a new place hopefully I'm part of the LR so I can collect my severance.

Expect a quiet but substantial blood-letting in IT. The target state is to leverage as many cloud vendors as possible with integration to on-prem systems/data done by an army of mostly useless Red Badge Contractors.

It's a depressing place in both RTP and SJ. I walk away from WWITMO every year wanting to cut my wrists. What a bunch of Kool-Aid drinking dopes. Drop a bomb on that group and you wouldn't miss 90% of them. In-fighting, politics, positioning and back stabbing has made the entire organization a detriment to everyone.

Spot on @1lee....

I wrote somewhere, that imho this time main purpose was to actually "break the neck" of the engineering.

That's why a lot of really good people were pushed out. Partially it simply removes people, but it also hurts morale to the level which makes a lot of other people to leave voluntarily.

Chuck wants to build engineering from scratch (or actually - outsource engineering to external parties).

It has begun. I am a red badge and just got my notice today. Out by end of this quarter (end of month). Same process as last quarter, contractors first, next employees. Get your resumes updated, here comes the boom.

Having gone through this 'process' for the last five years or so, even last year when Cisco did their up most to conceal it, somehow this year it feels different. More ruthless. There are some excellent engineers being shown the door - some really good software guys which goes against the message from Chuckie who cited changing company direction to software. I mean, what gives?! Our office in the UK feels like a morgue. Nobody cares anymore. It's like the soul has been ripped out of the place and those of us left are just waiting for our ticket to be called in Q2 or next year. Even the feeble attempts to rally the troops from senior managers are diluted. They probably looking over their shoulders as well. No way to live.

There are definitely changes coming in IT/GIS in Q2. Some teams will be heavily impacted. There are managers trying to find jobs for themselves elsewhere and trying to keep it quiet so I'm guessing they know they are likely to be impacted and those reporting to them will be swept away to who knows where or their jobs outsourced.

Expect it to all come out gradually over late November and December. It's likely to be pretty messy.

Layoffs will start with nonH1B and white older males

All the "rumors" have turned out to be true.

Insights? Start with last year's LRs. Aug-Nov-Jan. It is likely to happen again. We have been told - already, only 2 months into the year - to clamp down on expenses we severely. Never a good sign. Erikson's news is a very cold wind.

What people are worried about is not the layoff , it is the extent of them. Well the news yesterday regarding Ericsson was a proof point. You increase the bottom-line or cut staff, which for Cisco seems to be a downward spiral. Cisco is getting rid of talent, keeping the "Old Boys" in and wants to transition from a Hardware Company to a software and services company. Old dogs and new tricks comes to mind. Personally I feel that Cisco is too reliant on its $50 Billion War chest, thinking it will buy their way out of trouble. However their acquisition history speaks for itself.

So the coffee machine rumor is after Q2 more of the same , may be even deeper.

There are no more early retirements @cisco. That ship sailed a long, long, time ago. You'll get some amount for years worked when you get LR'd; but you're talking something like 1wk of pay for 1yr of service after something like 10yrs in. If you can retire on that, just bail now to save yourself the headache. Otherwise, think of yourself and your family and move on to something better.

LR = Limited Restructuring, LO= Lay Off :-)

I know what a LR is, but also heard of a LO. What is a LO? Is this early retirement? How do we know when that is available for us and the respective terms and conditions?

Remember the first number that hit the news was 14,000 people would be make redundant. We see now the first impact of 5,500 people and people in France who will be outsourced. The number of 14,000 didn't came out of the blue, but Chuck couldn't make it to announce this massive number during the Finance call where he also mentioned a record year.

Next to hit at most countries in Europe the layoff must stay under a certain amount of people because when higher then Unions etc. will get involved and this is not what Cisco want (bad press and bad people management).

Therefor I;m quite sure the layoffs are not over yet, this is just the begin!!

Layoffs are no longer news. It's been a way of life for Cisco for at least the last 5 years. Forget about corroborating evidence and look at the pattern. End of quarter? Layoff. End of fiscal year? Layoff. You can count on layoffs to be in play forevermore at Cisco
