Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

The worst part about the layoff is they kept who they liked , it was based on favoritism . In every location , the manager choose who they wantd

@1vton..... Your wrong. Anyone hired before 2003 can't be laid off. Anyone hired after that date could be but based on seniority not favoritism.

The union cannot, has not, and will not save anyone from layoffs.

I was with the company since NYNEX mobile. Had a six digit employee number. One of the original employees that built the company what it is today. My guess was my age and disability. No pension offered from the start, just 401k. Could not save much raising a large family. Corporate greed from the start once Bell Atlantic took over. With NYNEX our mobile service was free as a benefit. That all ended once BAM merged and took over. It slowly went down from there.

I was Rif'd a year ago and life is so much better since getting out of the $hithole. I feel sorry for anyone that works for that place. It used to be good until the bean counters took over and hired several levels of no-nothing managers. Too bad.

"That happened in the 12/15 RIF too. Who stayed and who went was at the whim of the Director in each department. That was the worst part for me. I didn't report directly to the person making the decisions so I was tossed aside. Horrible, I'm so sorry for all those impacted."

I am the original poster of this and yes you are correct that an independent firm was used to determine the RIF's, there were a certain amount of HQ positions that opened up and instead of letting impacted folks apply for them, the Directors saved their favorites by mapping folks into jobs, whether they were qualified or not.

2016 RIF was done by an independent company paid by VZ. Too factors to lay out for those RIFed. Most was HR file related. Not all but most. Then salary, age, etc. Local or regional had NO choice in who stay or went.

No. You are so wrong. HQ, not market presidents, sr. managers, directors, etc. This came from the top. Several factors were involved (any type of discipline recorded to HR file, age, location, pay rate, etc.) No local market manager could make a choice on who stay on with company. That is the truth. So many good employees are gone. However, I found out about the ones in area were HR file related (something was there those employees files). It's crappy but if you had a write up or warning then that's why. Also, both employees may have had something in their file but the person with less was chosen to stay. DM and managers were Riffed.
