What is with the 60 day notice period if you or your position is surplused? Any details around that area?

The separations are involuntary, even if you volunteer, so you ought to be eligible for unemployment in your state after all the payouts for severance and bonus are completed.
would i still get to take the severance after 60 days if i cant find a job internally
Igave my 2 week notice after my surplus email, my manager wanted me to stay at least a month to train my replacement, can you believe that ? I got hired by other company 1 week after leaving under great terns, good luck to all
That 60 day notice gives you time to find a new job, so ATT does not have to pay you unemployment. Or if you are lucky, you might get an opportunity to follow your position to another location, only to have the same crap happen again.
That's for you to find an internal job that doesn't exist.
I'd say hit both internally and externally for best chances, but right now I'm seeing most jobs posted being cancelled shortly there after. Nov-Dec is never a good time to look for a job internally here.

Since the jobs don't seem to be available internally, use the 60 days to get your finances in order and start looking for employment elsewhere. Those who got surplused that I knew that applied externally immediately found employment elsewhere before the 60 days was up used the severance to pay off bills and move to employment immediately. Others that I knew that hung on to hope never got an interview for internal positions...
