If it's blocked on your machine - here is the summary on the ATT Layoff news in Dallas News, just published... We knew about it on this site long before anyone reported it - good luck to all...

Dallas-based telecom company AT&T said Tuesday that it will lay off an undisclosed number of managers by the end of the year.

The employee layoffs will help cut costs as AT&T sees declining revenue in legacy parts of the company, AT&T spokesman Marty Richter said. He declined to say which divisions would be affected.

Richter did not say whether the number of layoffs would be in the hundreds or thousands, but described them as "relatively modest." AT&T has about 277,000 employees around the world.

"We're adding people in many areas where we're seeing increased customer demand for products and services," he said in a statement. "However, there are also areas where customer demand for our legacy services continues to decline, and we are making some management staff reductions in those areas between now and the end of the year."

Employees who lose their jobs will get severance packages and help with job placement, Richter said. They will also be eligible for other AT&T positions.

AT&T and its telecommunications peers face cost-cutting pressures as they try to keep prices low and pursue new areas for growth, according to the October report by Moody's Investors Services. The juggling act has caused some "to shed 'non-core' assets in order to fund the growth businesses," the report said.

Last year, AT&T acquired DirecTV for $49 billion, and since then, it's sought to capitalize on that investment. The company has emphasized the satellite TV platform instead of U-Verse, its wireline TV product. It has announced three new DirecTV video streaming options that will launch later this year to appeal to TV watchers who don't want cable.

On Tuesday, AT&T said it had signed a multi-year deal with Taylor Swift to promote DirecTV. As part of the deal, she's going to headline a DirecTV-sponsored concert Feb. 4 in Houston, the night before the Super Bowl.
