Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Should I feel guilty....?

I've thought about this pretty hard, and probably will go to another company once oil goes back up and places start their hiring again. I guess I feel a little guilty about it, but just don't see a future here at CoP. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Don't feel guilty - do what's best for you and your family. If you need your income and aren't ready to retire, what's best for you and your family is most likely leaving COP if you have the opportunity to do so. Leave and don't look back. Trust me, if you're laid off at some point, management won't give you a second thought...they'll forget you were ever there, despite the many contributions to their success you made.

And @5pc1... anyone who still promotes loyalty to COP despite everything they have had the opportunity to witness over the last two years or so is either an HR/Management troll trying to stem the tide of the mass exodus or just simply delusional. Either way, not a good look for that poster. Nice try, but nobody's buying the loyalty card anymore. Not after multiple rounds of layoffs, almost no pain/cuts at the ELT level, broken commitments and double talk from the ELT...etc etc etc.

The people telling you to run away are all old and bitter from being let go. I don't blame them for being angry, it is a natural reaction when you are dumped - both in work and in your personal life.

But keep in min that the people who linger here are resentful and not offering sound advice.

I feel the same way. Its bad enough that half my teammates were cut. Now I'm starting to get calls from a couple of guys who went in the first round of cuts asking if I want to jump to their company. Do I take the risk that I jump to another company only to have them fold up shop or do I stick it out here? My manager doesn't even know my name and I doubt I'd survive another layoff. Besides, I sat in the last Ryan townhall and I am not inspired. If anything, I think he's only got months left in his job.

Did they feel guilty for letting people go? Nope! Look out for yourself!

You owe the company nothing, except what you wre paid for. You owe no future. Leave them high and dry whenever you wish

I'd run as soon as the next opportunity arises. The company has no loyalty to you, and you should feel no guilt having no loyalty to it. It's just business.

Agree that they'll keep selling assets and laying off people for a while, at least until the market capitalization shrinks enough for a takeover. That would assume there is actually value to be had in purchasing COP. Run at first chance.

COP aint going nowhere...it takes years for a company to go bankrupt and COP will be fine...go on the EDGAR site and go look at the financials....COP is not doing well but it will keep selling assets for pennies on the dollar to stay afloat...

its portfolio will shrink and you will have less people working here but it will still survive....

Don't walk away. Run, run very fast as soon as the opportunity arises. That is of course, if COP doesn't lay you off before then. Don't feel guilty, do what you have to do. There is no future in a company that does not follow their own Spirit values.
