It is very clear. There are directors and senior directors taking $350K / yr packages...These people are either doing power point strategy, basic number manipulation, cutting an slicing existing revenue in 10 different directions on corporate side, OR working on mediocre products or maintaining status quo on engineering side. Mediocrity is rampant at Cisco. Fellows, DEs and PEs are in the smart category.
When the LR comes, I have seen mediocre directors getting rid of smart people first as they are scared they will challenge their ideas and status quo. They wait and wait and when the LR clears, licks their boss to get another promotion. Extremely bad on finance and corporate side in general. There are people in finance who do not have a proper finance degree even..
But the good things is this...Smart people will always move out of Cisco after 3 Yrs. Will never stay back. People who stay behind for more than 3 Yrs (excluding people who have visa issues) ARE NOT SMART at all. Hence they play all the games and do everything to stay inside Cisco because no decent company would want them outside as the only skill they have acquired at Cisco is playing politics.
So if you have excellent skills, got LRed but feel confident that you will get a job soon, i can conclude, you are one of the smart guys, and feel sorry that Cisco lost a guy like you in the cross fire.
But if you are scared that you may not find a job outside, then u r just another mediocre idiot who was playing politics at Cisco all while and just happened to have been discovered by the upper management recently for the LR.
So what do you feel now, confident (means you got skills and one of the smart guys who will get what he wants) or scared (means an idiot who has been twiddling thumbs at Cisco for the last few years and no hope now) ?
