Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

The essence of leadership

It would be a sad mistake to use the term leadership to describe these clueless fools.

The essence of leadership is respect for others, particularly for those that carry the bulk of ongoing work and who also have the best ideas for moving an organization forward...

I personally know many who have left or are planning to leave soon as a direct result of this complete absence of leadership...

Some of us had the joy of seeing both IBM and Cisco walk this path. Cisco learns from and copies IBM.

Your post reminded me of this because one of IBM's key values was "respect for the individual". They literally had to announce the were dropping it before they started the mass layoffs of the 90s. And it went to hell fast at IBM after that. Cisco is walking a disturbingly similar path.

If Cisco employees think they cannot cut benefits and severance more, they are wrong. IBM's severence is bare bones. And for benefits the 401k doesn't get matched until year end. Layoff? You lose it. So Cisco has more tricks to learn.
